Every week for almost twenty years, Pastor Pete and Brenda Combs have opened the doors of Fullness of the Word Ministry in Beattyville, Kentucky, and fed hundreds of their neighbors.

They don't wait for people to come to them. They meet families right where they are, with groceries, household basics, and a listening ear.

For more than ten years, Servants of our Lord has partnered with Pete and Brenda, sending food their way each month so their shelves stay full. Their deep roots in Beattyville and our supply line through Midwest Food Bank multiply each other. Every $1 given puts about $30 of food into a hand that needs it.

Our next Clay City distribution is September 14-15, and partners like Pete and Brenda will be there carrying that food home to their communities.

Two days. Hundreds of families. That's what our July distribution in Clay City looked like — trucks unloaded, boxes packed, volunteers working side by side with a dozen partner agencies to get food into hands that needed it.

We're doing it again September 14th and 15th, and we need more hands than we've got right now. Sorting, loading, greeting families as they pull in — no experience required, just a willing heart and a few hours.

Last year our team moved over 500,000 pounds of food across 12 Kentucky counties. Every one of those pounds moved because someone showed up.

Every month, when our truck rolls into Eastern Kentucky, Pastor Pete and his wife Brenda are already waiting. They don't wait for families to find them — they load up the Fullness of the Word Ministry truck and drive right into low-income communities, holding food and clothing giveaways where people actually live.

Pete and Brenda are one story. Multiply their truck by 30 more pastors and partner ministries doing the same thing across Appalachia, and you start to see how one delivery becomes a lifeline for thousands of families.

New seasons rarely arrive with every answer neatly in place—and perhaps that is why they teach us to trust God so deeply.

"This has been some of the hardest work, but most rewarding work."

That's Jason and Angela of Tree of Life Ministries in West Liberty, Kentucky. They're one of the 30-plus partner agencies who take what comes off our truck and carry it the last mile — down the back roads, onto porches, into kitchens where the cabinets were bare that morning.

They said something else that has stayed with us: "It's an honor and privilege to serve others... They are such a blessing to us and allow us to be a blessing to others." That's the whole chain right there. A donor in Illinois, a truck headed south, a pastor in West Liberty, a family at the table.

Our next distribution is September 14-15 in Clay City. Twelve Kentucky counties are counting on it.

Our warehouse sits at 5860 Main Street in Clay City, Kentucky. Most days it's quiet. Then two days a month it isn't — pallets come down, boxes get sorted, and one by one the trucks of 30-plus partner pastors back up to the dock and get loaded.

That's the whole operation, really. Nobody paid standing between the food and the family. Just hands.

Our next distribution is September 14-15, and we could use more of those hands. There's a job for every ability — sorting, packing, loading, keeping the coffee going. Youth groups, we'd especially love to have you.

Every $1 given becomes $30 of food. But food still has to be moved by somebody.

That's the honest version. Loading, hauling, sorting, showing up again the next month. It isn't glamorous. They call it an honor and a privilege — and they keep doing it for their own neighbors.

Tree of Life is one of more than 30 partner ministries we supply across 12 Kentucky counties. We don't hand food to families ourselves. We fill the shelves and the trucks of the pastors and volunteers who already know their communities by name.

The pallets move on, but gratitude stays.

As this week’s Clay City distribution days come to a close, we’re thankful for the willing hands behind every prepared pallet, loaded vehicle, swept floor, checked list, and encouraging word. Much of this ministry happens one ordinary task at a time—and each task matters.

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” — Colossians 3:23 (KJV)

Tomorrow, a chain of compassion begins moving through Clay City.

Food will be unloaded, organized, and prepared for partner agencies serving Eastern Kentucky. Every person who gives, lifts a box, guides a pallet, loads a vehicle, or prays becomes part of that chain.

This Sunday, please pray for safe travel, willing hands, and renewed strength for everyone serving during the August 10–11 distribution. May each practical act of kindness carry a quiet reminder: God sees, God provides, and no loving service is wasted.
