This week's message title: All Authority, part 2. Go Therefore. Scripture reading Matthew 28:16-20. We will also continue our study in John 17. Last week we looked at John 17:1-5 where Jesus said in verse 2 that God has, "given Him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given Him." Jesus has authority over all flesh because as the eternal Son of God He became flesh. The Go Therefore in Matthew points back to Jesus having all authority in Heaven and on Earth. We can have confidence to go, because He has all authority.
It is an amazing God that would use the very souls He saved to save others. Jesus prays for those in John 17:6-19 that believed in Him while He was on the Earth. In John 17:20-26 He will pray for those that will believe in Him because the previous group did go. That group of people who saw, lived and walked with Jesus became just like us when He ascended back to the Father. They had no Jesus with them. They were empowered by the Holy Spirit and turned the world upside down. And now over 2000 years later there are those who are still going. Jesus said in John 14:12, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will He do, because I am going to the Father." A very small group of 120 met in Jerusalem after Jesus ascended, (Acts 1:15), on the day of Pentecost, 3000 were added to their number. Go therefore and turn the world upside down. He will be with us until the end of the age. Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.

This week's message title: All Authority. Scripture reading Matthew 28:16-20. We are nearing the end of our study of the 40 days Jesus spent on earth after his resurrection. The disciples have returned to Galilee. Jesus meets them there to give them His final instructions. This portion of scripture is often called the Great Commission. Jesus tells them "All authority in Heaven and Earth has been given to Me, go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". Jesus will soon ascend back to Heaven and the Father. Before His death, Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17. He was asking to return to His former glory, He tells the Father He has finished the work He was sent to do. Because of that work He has been given All authority in Heaven and Earth, Matthew 28:18. Just what does that mean? John 17:1,2, When Jesus had spoken these words, He lifted up His eyes to Heaven, and said, "Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify You, since you have given Him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom You have given Him." Jesus has been given authority over all flesh, that is you, that is me, that is everyone. The passage goes on to say eternal life is knowing the one true God and Jesus Christ whom God sent. Have you accepted the authority of God and His Son Jesus Christ to give you eternal life? Service is at 10:30 and all welcome.

This week's message title: Follow Me. Scripture reading John 21:15-25. We are still studying the 40 days that Jesus was on the earth after His resurrection. The disciples have returned to Galilee and have fished all night and caught nothing. Jesus shows up on the shore that morning and He has breakfast prepared. After breakfast Jesus has a conversation with Peter. Jesus asked Peter three times if he loves Him. Peter says yes, all three times. Jesus says to him then
"Feed my lambs, tend my sheep, feed my sheep." Many see this as Jesus calling Peter back to ministry. He had denied knowing Jesus three times on the night of His arrest and now has told Jesus three times I love you. Peter seems to be unsure of his future but in just days he will boldly proclaim that Jesus has risen from the grave, (see Acts 2.)
How does this passage speak to us? Yes, I have been called to be a minister and to be an under Shepherd, (See 1st Peter 5.) But what about those sheep. Those believers in Jesus who are not called to serve in a leadership role. Is there something in your life you love more than Jesus? If we truly believe the eternal Son of God became flesh, and gave that body as a sacrifice to save us from our sins, and rose from the grave to give us eternal life should we not love Him. What do you love? When you figure that out, then you will know what you will sacrifice for.1st John 4:19 says "We love because He first loved us." Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments. Is the Lord asking you, do you love me? Does the world and those around you know you are a Christian? Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.

This week's message title: Come and Have Breakfast. Scripture reading John 21:1-14. First, I want to wish all the mother's a Happy Mother's Day. I had wonderful parents which is a blessing from God. Both my mother and mother-in-law were Godly women who are now in Heaven. My wife is a great mother and grandmother, and she also cares for this old man.
John 21:14 tells us, "This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after He was raised from the dead." The disciples have returned to Galilee where they were told that Jesus would meet them. Seven of them decide to go fishing. They struggle all night but catch no fish. In the morning, Jesus is standing on the shore, but they do not recognize Him. He tells them to cast the net on the right side of the boat. They do and catch 153 fish. Sometimes God's blessing is closer than we think. I don't know if they had fished all night from the left side of the boat, that may have been their normal practice. God may let us struggle for a season to draw us closer to Him. John 21:1 says, "He revealed himself in this way." What way? By the sea, where they had fished all night and not caught any fish. When Jesus called these disciples at the beginning of His ministry they had fished all night and caught nothing, see Luke 5:1-11. Often life's struggles and trials are there to draw us near to God. To remind us of God's blessing in the past and show us where today's blessing is. Romans 5:1-5 tells us suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character and character produces hope. They struggled all night, then haul a huge catch to shore, they have to be tired and hungry. When they reach the shore Jesus says, "Come and have breakfast." They enjoy the company of God's Son, their Savior. In this life. Jesus does not always remove our struggles but gives us a way of escape that we may endure, see First Corinthians 10:12,13. But that struggle makes us better Christians that live with the sure hope of one day sharing the company of God's Son in Heaven. Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.

This week's message title: Receive the Holy Spirit. Scripture reading John 20:19-29. Last week we looked at Luke's account of Jesus' visit with 10 of the apostles and other disciples on the evening of Resurrection Day. Our scripture reading includes John's account of that meeting but continues through the week to the next Sunday a week after Jesus had risen. We know about the reports of the women, and at some point, Jesus appeared to Peter (see Luke 24:34). And now 2 disciples on the road to Emmaus have come and reported they had seen Jesus. All these people are probably in the room but there is still unbelief. Jesus enters the room and says in John 20:19b,20, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you. " And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit." Well, some struggle with this because the Holy Spirit will come 50 days after Jesus' resurrection and after His accension. I believe the first work of the Holy Spirit is in our hearts. Romans 8:16, "The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."
In Luke's account he says in 24:45, "Then he (Jesus) opened their mind to understand the Scriptures." Faith is the gift of God. This passage is really about believing. Thomas was not there that night and says emphatically, "I will never believe." Jesus appears that next Sunday and Thomas believes and calls Jesus "My Lord and my God!" John 20:29 Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." I am thankful for my God given faith through the work of the Holy Spirit. I hope you will receive the Holy Spirit and believe. There is much to unpack in these 11 verses, but Jesus said to Thomas and us, "Do not disbelieve, but believe." Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.

This week's message title: A Busy First Day. Scripture reading Luke 24:36-49. We are continuing our study of the 40 days Jesus spent on earth after His resurrection. Our scripture reading this week is still on that first day, resurrection Sunday. Jesus made five appearances that day all to those that had followed Him before His crucifixion. First to Mary Magdalene, then to the other women. Scripture tells us He also met with Peter on resurrection day but there is nothing recorded other than they met, see Luke 24:34, and 1st. Corinthians 15:1-8. After this, He joins two disciples going to Emmaus, and then that evening He meets with the eleven and those with them. That was a busy first Day. Jesus' resurrection is known to the chief priest and elders because the guards told them, see Matthew 28:11-15. However, this first day, Jesus only meets with those who followed Him before His death. Rumors were circling among the followers all day. When Jesus appears in the room where they all are, they were frightened and thought they saw a spirit. Jesus asked them, "Why are you troubled and why do doubts arise in your hearts." Jesus does not stay with them constantly as He did before His resurrection. Something new was happening. Over the next 40 days Jesus will prepare these frightened, scared, doubting followers into the first church. The apostles will speak boldly, publicly that Jesus has risen. Jesus says to them in Luke 24:46,47, "thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Jesus proclaims that this message is for all people, see Luke 2:10,11. The message of repentance and forgiveness will begin in Jerusalem, but it will spread to all nations, see Matthew 24:14. Hallelujah, the message is for all people, have you heard it and received it? Jesus is still calling sinners to repentance and forgiveness through His church. The something new that was happening. Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.

This week's message title: Was It Not Necessary? Scripture reading Luke 24:13-35. This is still the Sunday when Jesus was resurrected. This scripture reading is about two disciples leaving Jerusalem and going to Emmaus about seven miles away. This is taking place in the afternoon. Luke is the only writer to record this story. We also need to remember that Luke is a gentile, a non-Jew, and the only gentile writer in the New Testament. Luke also is the most prolific writer in the New Testament writing about 27.5 % of the New Testament which includes the gospel of Luke and the Acts of the Apostle's.
These two disciples are discussing all that has happened in Jerusalem as they walk. The crucifixion of Jesus and the women's account of Jesus' resurrection. They are probably headed home, Passover is over, and I just don't think they believe that Jesus has risen. It is often assumed that this was two men. One is identified as Cleopas, which could possibly be a Greek rendering of Clopas. Clopas' wife was one of the women that witnesses Jesus' crucifixion and was likely with the women that were at the empty tomb. You can read more about this online and make your own decision. Jesus joins them as they walk, He keeps their eyes from recognizing Him and pretends He does not know what has happened in Jerusalem. Jesus is told by Cleopas that they were hopeful Jesus would redeem them from the Romans. What they didn't understand was that they needed to be redeemed from the wrath of God. Jesus says to them in verse 26, "Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory:" A big part of that glory is believers. John 17:10 Jesus is praying to his Father, and He says of those that will believe, "All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I am glorified in them." It was necessary that Christ suffer to enter His glory. His crucifixion redeems the believer. It paid the price of our sins and saves us from the wrath of God. See John 3:36. Jesus calls these people fools, and slow of heart to believe. Don't be foolish, believe in the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Service is at 10:30 and all are welcome.
