Yesterday, just a mile from our sanctuary, at Charles Young Park, there was an annual family event for the East End. A hot, steamy Saturday, but families were out, adults and children of all ages. We don't yet know why, but someone brought a gun, and there was a mass shooting. One person has died. We don't know why, but that really doesn't matter. Our hearts break for the victims, their families, for all who witnessed it, and for the one(s) who pulled the trigger. There were too many tragedies yesterday, all of them avoidable. We as a congregation in this community continue to pray for our community, our neighbors, as we seek to serve in our community in God's name as best we are able. We pray for the work of One Lexington and all the grassroots organizations that are doing the important work of community building in Lexington. We pray for the first responders. May we all seek a peaceful way to live together in community.

Our youth collect a Change for Change offering all year that is designated for local non-profits that are suggested by our congregation. Every Fifth Sunday the money is counted and sent to the selected non-profit with a note from our youth. Many of the organizations are also recipients of donations from our annual Rummage Sale. We love our Lexington community and all of the people who work to care for and minister to others.

At Eastminster, we promise to bring you the best thrift values at our Rummage Sale. We test items and sift out dirty, broken, and smelly items. We don't haggle over price, but we usually have a good deal on the last day. So far this year we have LOTS of toys and children's clothing, antique and vintage pieces, accessories, shoes, and decor! July 31- August 1 and August 7-8.

Our beautiful little church on the corner of Liberty Road and Henry Clay Blvd. has quite an interesting story.
