Decorations of gravesites shall be limited to the following items:
1. Headstone Saddles – These flower arrangements may be live or artificial and are designed to sit on top of a headstone.
2. Headstone-Mounted Vases – These can be filled with live or artificial flowers.
3. Small Plantings – Small shrubs and flowering bulbs may be planted around headstones with the approval of the trustees. The family member responsible for planting must read and sign an agreement that they will care for the plantings and provide any additional grass trimming necessary to keep the gravesite in similar condition to the rest of the cemetery. Existing plantings at the time of the implementation of these rules do not need trustees’ approval.
4. Wire stakes – Flower arrangements on wire stakes or shepherd’s hooks will be permitted.
5. Other – Any other gravesite decorations will be considered special decorations and will require pre-approval of the trustees. In addition, the family member(s) responsible for placing these decorations on the gravesite must read and sign an agreement to provide all grass trimming around the site to keep the gravesite in similar condition to the rest of the cemetery. Our mowers will not mow around these sites.

McNeely Cemetery does allow for family members of those previously buried at the cemetery to bury or scatter cremated ashes on gravesites. However, the er****on of any monuments marking the burial site of cremated remains should be reported to cemetery trustees and officers and an application should be filed to avoid confusion in cemetery records about where physical remains are located.

The cemetery does not allow the burial of nonhuman remains, cremated or otherwise.

In order to maintain the grounds of the cemetery, we rely on donations from individuals who plan to be buried at McNeely at a future date and from family members of those who are currently buried at the cemetery. In order to reserve a burial plot at McNeely, we ask that individuals make a donation to our perpetual fund of $150 per grave site.
In addition to an initial donation, we ask that individuals and family members continue to support the cemetery through regular donations, voluntary service, and regular attendance of annual member meetings. The cemetery members meet each September on the Saturday following Labor Day at the cemetery at 11 a.m. In the event of inclement weather, we may hold our meetings at Dunn Missionary Baptist Church on Highway 109, Dawson Springs.
If you are reserving a plot or multiple plots for you and your family, please provide names and contact information for yourself and as many interested family members as possible who will be included in our annual meetings. Ideally, we would like to have 4-10 family members on our mailing list for any new burial in the cemetery.
Contact information requested includes:
• Name
• Explanation of relationship to anyone already buried at the cemetery (eg. Georgia Duncan-grandmother)
• Mailing address
• Email (if available)
• Cell or telephone number
Please send contact information to one of the cemetery trustees or to the secretary directly at the address below.
