First United Methodist Church Downtown

First United Methodist Church Downtown Worship. Grow. Serve. Worshiping together is always a gift. We offer two services at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM.

Our 11:00 AM service is available via livestream each Sunday at downtownlex.org/live — as well as on Facebook, Vimeo and YouTube. At each service, we come together to hear God’s word, to offer prayers and praise, and to be changed. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of the month, and all are welcome to participate. Our downtown service is in a beautiful historic sanctuary built in 1908, an

d is part of our legacy dating back to 1789. There is wonderful singing using hymns and anthems, meaningful liturgy, inspiring preaching, and warm, vibrant music. We are in the heart and "hub" of downtown Lexington, and we often say we are "downtown for good" meaning we are here to stay as an urban, historic "city on a hill" and we are here for the "good we can do" close to the hurting humanity of the streets. Our sanctuary truly is a sanctuary where we find rest, peace, time for prayer—but also to move toward being with one another and then out into the world.

Yesterday we celebrated Pastor Carol's final Sunday with First UMC after 10 years of faithful leadership. We are so thankful for the impact she and the Cooper family have made. Please be in prayer for Carol, Keith, and Will as they transition to Oklahoma and begin this next season of life!

Just a few of the ways Pastor Todd encouraged us this past Sunday to awaken to love.

Image Quote:
"Love looks like texting a friend
who has had a bad day.

Love looks like stepping aside,
so someone can step up.

Love looks like listening in order
to understand, not respond.

Love looks like honoring someone
without trying to fix them.

Love looks like offering grace
without calculating its potential impact.

Love looks like an act of kindness
without needing to be thanked or recognized.

Love looks like choosing joy over bitterness."
