Woodland is blessed to be surrounded by an incredible cloud of witnesses to walk alongside us and pray for us as a community. A special thanks to Dr. Charisse L. Gillett, President of Lexington Theological Seminary and Rev. Denise Bell, Donald and Lillian Nunnelly Chair and Assistant Professor of Pastoral Leadership at Lexington Theological Seminary for joining us in worship when Rev. Hord Owens visited. It was a joy to have these leaders celebrating alongside us all the many milestones towards transformation and renewal.

We are still glowing from welcoming Rev. Terri Hord Owens, General Minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in worship to preach earlier this month. Rev. Hord Owens was a prayer partner alongside our leadership as we went thorugh discernment about how we might use our resources to do a new kind of ministry in Lexington. We are grateful to have the incredible support of the wider church at every level as we celebrate what God has done at Woodland and we dream about how we might continue to serve our neighbors in Lexington.

Yesterday was a momentous day in the life of Woodland. We had the honor of hosting around 100 attendees representing over 15 faith communities across Lexington to HEAR and SEE first hand Woodland’s faithful vision and partnership with Winterwood Inc. It was a joy for Pastor Christy Jo to talk about what we as a community imagined with God, through prayer and how it resulted in loving our neighbors in Lexington by responding to the need for affordable housing. We are excited to see how the Spirit might move in those gathered yesterday ✨

We are proud to have hosted an event that brought community leaders together to learn and dream of ways we can work together to create affordable housing for more of our neighbors in Lexington. Thank you Mayor Linda Gorton and Commerce Lexington for facilitating this event!

This morning, I joined many of our faith leaders, community members, and government staff for a thoughtful discussion on affordable housing. We met at Woodland Christian Church, which, with support from the government, recently adapted part of its space to create new affordable housing units. Efforts like these show how essential partnerships are in the creation of affordable housing, and how progress happens when government, nonprofits, our faith community, and the private sector work together.

Since 2014, the government’s Affordable Housing Fund has allocated over $60 million, helping leverage over $490 million investment in private investment to develop or preserve nearly 3,925 housing units. We hope to top 4,100 this year. I’m excited about the partnerships ahead as we continue to work on meeting our community’s affordable housing needs.

We continue praying for the victims of the shooting that took place one mile from the church on Saturday and invite you to join us in that prayer. On Sunday during our hymn sing we closed with a sing that had the lyrics "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me." Our prayer is that we might continue to bring peace and comfort to our community in this moment of grief and as we dream of a peaceful Lexington together.

Please note the tow signs indicating spaces that are reserved for The Oaks at Woodland residents only. If you’re able, we invite you to enjoy a short walk through the neighborhood—helping us keep closer spots open for those who need easier access.

Entrance
When you arrive to purchase a ticket at the door and for the Meet and Greet at 6:30PM you’re invited to enter through our KY Avenue Doors on the side of the building.

If you arrive for Showtime at 7PM we invite you to enter through the front doors on High Street. For accessible entry, use the KY Avenue doors and go straight down the hallway to the elevator, and take it to the second floor.
