There is a village in Kenya we have come to love.

For years now, Margaret Lewis has been pouring her life into it — caring for its children, holding close its widows, and weaving a future for the whole community in the name of Jesus.

This Sunday, she’s in our room to tell us how it’s going.

This post is half invitation, half prayer — for the children, for the widows, for Margaret and her workers, and for our own hearts to actually receive and celebrate what God has been doing far from us.

Most church communication is announcements pretending to be content. We’re trying to stop doing that.

This Sunday we launched or relaunched three things — each with one specific job:

The website — for the people in your life who haven’t been here yet.

The Church Center app — for everything internal: giving, sermons, sign-ups, the calendar.

The newsletter — for real thinking on what we’re all wrestling with together.

We’re not making technology the price of belonging at this church. If you feel like none of it is for you, you still belong. But we did real work to build it — and we’d love you to try it. Tell us what’s working. Tell us what isn’t.

Because better communication isn’t about being louder. It’s about being closer — and hearing you back when something matters.

Mother’s Day has a habit of being heavier than it looks.

For some this Sunday will be a celebration — flowers, brunch, kids piled on the couch. For others it will be the hardest day on the calendar — the empty chair, the negative test, the relationship that never healed. Many people are doing both at once.

We made this because Mother’s Day in church can accidentally become a celebration of one kind of woman — and that’s not the whole room or our church.

So whatever you’re carrying Sunday this Mother’s Day, bring it. We’ll see you.

Yesterday was Zach’s last Sunday with our church before marriage and med school!

Zach, thank you. For the late nights, the early mornings, the songs we’ll keep singing because you taught them to us. We’re proud of you and Kendyl and can’t wait to see what God does next!

A couple weeks ago I asked some of our elders to pray for me about a work situation. Watching God move through it has been the kind of thing I would have missed if I’d kept it to myself.

What’s been sitting with me since: how often do I actually set this example? Not praying for others. Not praying alone. Going to someone and asking them to carry it with me.

If more of us did, maybe it would become a normal part of our culture again — like it was in the early church.

Every Sunday at the end of service, our elders (and often their wives) stand in the back of the room. They’re there for one reason: to pray for whatever you came in carrying. Most weeks, we walk right past them on the way out.

Prayer doesn’t have to be a last resort. It can be a celebration. It can be discernment. It can be the wisdom you need before the next call.

James 5:14 literally tells us to do this. And yet — we’d ask ChatGPT, our friends, our group chat, before we’d ask the King.

This Sunday, they’ll be in the back as always. Let them pray for you!
