New Monmouth Presbyterian Church

New Monmouth Presbyterian Church We are a community of faith in the Kerrs Creek area of Rockbridge County, just west of Lexington.

New Monmouth Presbyterian Church is a community with great history as well as great excitement about what God is now doing in our midst. Founded in 1746, our congregation has seen its area go through many changes. Along with Kerrs Creek and the Lexington area, New Monmouth has changed, too. The hymnals you find in the pews or the styles of dress may not be the same as they were fifty years ago, bu

t through it all we still seek to ground ourselves in God’s Word. We humbly seek to follow it and worship Jesus Christ, who revealed himself in the Bible. As Presbyterians, we are rooted in what is called the “reformed” tradition, which takes its name from the Reformation that happened in the Church 500 years ago. At that time the church was struggling against teachings that said we could buy or earn salvation. It gave humanity the impossible task of being good enough for God on our own. Besides being impossible, it isn’t what God had shown us in his word. So every Sunday we seek to emphasize the good news of a sovereign God who shows a sinful people grace and mercy, and he does so in Jesus Christ. There is nothing we can do to earn God’s love, rather we believe it is about what God has already done in Jesus.

We are so excited to be prepping for our annual VBS! Email us with questions or to let us know you'll be coming. It's FREE.
Each year we are so privileged to be with your children, or your grandchildren, or your neighbor's kids, etc... and we are going to be looking at one of the great festivals of the Bible and how it teaches us about God's nearness. Hope you can be there.

Our first Sunday back in the sanctuary after the new paint and carpet was recorded but the video had completely unusable audio. But for those who'd like to see how it looks, here are a couple of screenshots. Of course, it's better in person so come on out to see it!

A short and simple worship video for Sunday morning, as we cannot be together.
Here are the lyrics to the closing song:

Slow Me Down, Porter’s Gate
O good shepherd, would you teach me how to rest
I’m rushing on, will you make me to lie down
Will you build a fold by the waters that refresh
Will you call my name and lead me safely out?

From my anxious drive to labor on and on
From the restless grind that has put my mind to sleep
Will you call me back and gently slow me down
Will you show me now, what to lose and what to keep?

O Good Shepherd, O Good friend,
Slow me down, slow me down.

When my table’s bent with only greed and gold
And my grasping hands are afraid you won’t provide.
Will you pour the wine that loosens up my hold
Set your table here with what truly satisfies

On the busy streets trying to make myself a name
If the work is yours, there is nothing I can claim
Will you lead me home to the pastures of your peace
The house is yours, I’m sitting at your feet
