Good Shepherd Youth Group

For the past months our Sunday Gospel readings have come the Gospel According to St. Luke. At present we find ourselves right in the middle of Jesus' short ministry on earth. Tales of miraculous healing and parables of wisdom are offered to help us better understand the reconciling nature of Christ and the rhythms of the kingdom of God. Themes of justice, mercy, faithfulness, and forgiveness invite us to enter into this reconciling work of God, bringing the kingdom of God to earth.

The kingdom is all around us, we are in it, we help create it, it is in us. You can spot the kingdom wherever there is love, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and all the other fruits of the spirit. As Emil Brunner wrote, 'wherever Christ is Lord over [our] hearts, there the kingdom of God is.'

Sometimes that kingdom work means feeding the hungry, visiting the lonely, or even carving pumpkins. I hope your students can join me this Sunday as we carve symbols of our faith into some shiny gourds.

May God forever reign in our hearts dear ones.

Friends, this Sunday, the youth are invited to join the Good Shepherd family and walk raise funds for God’s Pantry for the CROP walk.

Meet at 3 o’clock at second presbyterian church. We will gather for a picture, and then walk.

30 Hour Famine

In late February I'm excited to share that I'll be leading our youth in a 30 Hour Famine to raise awareness and funds to aid in the fight against food insecurity.

The purpose is to raise awareness and funds for those experiencing hunger though World Vision.

Dates: February 25-26

The fast will start on Friday after lunch through Saturday dinner. It can be done 100% virtually, but I'm hoping to gather the Youth in person for some part of the 30 hrs. I'm watching COVID numbers and will share a finalized plan.

$40 will help feed and care for a child for a month, and I wanted our goal to correspond with our average attendance at youth group. Rounding up, our team goal will be $500, but it would be great if we raised more.

Weather permitting, we WILL have Youth Group this Sunday at 5:00 pm, and Sunday School will continue at 9am in the Youth Suite.

Confirmation classes will take place during Lent. Sign your student up at https://gslex.churchcenter.com/people/forms/338229 to take confirmation classes.
