Central Baptist Church Lexington

Central Baptist Church Lexington Central Baptist Church is an open, inclusive, welcoming, thinking and loving fellowship of Christians. Sunday School - 9:45; Worship - 11:00

Welcome to Lexington's only member congregation of the Alliance of Baptists. This ecumenically-minded fellowship of Baptist Christians seriously honors and seeks to apply many important principles cherished by Baptists throughout the centuries. Liberty of Conscience - Baptist history began as a movement of freedom seeking independence from the over-reaching powers of state and church control, espe

cially as it applied to religious beliefs. Baptists have taught respect for the person who expresses their faith differently or even, who has no faith as all. At Central, we hope you are free to express your opinion or ask questions without fear of being judged as different. Freedom of the Local Church - Each Baptist church is free to practice their faith as determined by their membership. That's one reason why there are so many different types of Baptist congregations. It's also why we are not, by necessity, a part of the larger and more popular Southern Baptist Convention nor Kentucky Baptist Convention to which most Baptist churches in Lexington belong. Freedom of Servants Called by God - Our church elevates a standard of servant leadership we see embodied by our Servant Lord, Jesus Christ. The evidence of this standard and a giftedness toward ministry is more important than any other qualification for Christian service. We believe churches should be free to call into leadership and ordain who it perceives so qualified, male or female. Theological Education - We value the importance of a reverence for biblically authority guided by a respect for open inquiry and responsible scholarship. Our goal is not to indoctrinate, but to equip the people of God for ministry into the world. Our approach might challenge more strongly-held or popular understandings, but we feel an open heart and an open mind are the best ways to grow into and through grace. A Broad Gospel Proclamation - The good news of Jesus Christ is best preached when it is lived and practiced, not just believed. To that end, we understand the calling of God to all persons toward repentance and faith, reconciliation and hope as well as working toward social and economic justice for everyone, especially the powerless. A Free Church in a Free State - We oppose any effort by the church or by the state to use the other for its own purposes. Political issues are important to be addressed by Christians, but should be free of partisan endorsements of policies or candidates. Happy Juneteenth! We offer our thanks for those who continued to hope and work for freedom that was long overdue. May we continue to learn from those voices that know first-hand the long hard road to freedom, and may we join in the work until every body can share equally in liberty.

Services are cancelled on January 19 due to winter weather conditions.

01/04/2025

Due to the winter storm warning, we are cancelling all of our Sunday services tomorrow.

With the worsening forecast and the timing of the storm, we are especially concerned about hazardous driving conditions as people travel home. We will have no small groups, worship service, worship livestream, or fellowship meal tomorrow, January 5.

We will reschedule our monthly fellowship meal for next Sunday, January 12 after worship.

We hope everyone stays and warm. If there are power outages in the area and the power remains on at the church building, we will open the building for the congregation to use. Please call or text to let us know.
