Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit upheld a preliminary injunction that protects CBF churches from unbridled immigration enforcement activity. CBF Executive Coordinator Paul Baxley celebrated today’s ruling:

“Today’s decision is a powerful reaffirmation of the values that have defined the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship from our beginning. We remain steadfast in our commitment to religious liberty, local church autonomy and the clear separation of church and state. For decades, our congregations have faithfully engaged in ministry among immigrants and refugees, offering a bold and courageous witness to the remarkable and relentless love of Christ. We give thanks that the court has preserved these protections while the case moves forward, allowing our congregations to worship and minister freely. While our work continues, we celebrate this important victory as a testament to the bold faith that rises from freedom rather than coercion.”

Today, we acknowledge and celebrate Juneteenth.

On June 19th, 1865, over two years after the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation, 2,000 Union Troops liberated over 250,000 black people who were still enslaved in Galveston Bay, Texas.

We invite you to read and contemplate this prayer for Juneteenth, written by Addae Ama Kraba in 2024:

Creator of All,
As believers in justice,
Woven into a single garment of life.
Making us one with the human family,
Let us rejoice for those who safely
passed through the shades of night
towards the daylight of freedom.
Spirit of all possibilities,
may we be blessed with true freedom,
Free of all oppressions.
Spirit of hope,
With grateful hearts
We lift our voices in shared solidarity,
Holding each other safe
In the fire of justice and the light of love.

This past Sunday was our Interim Minister Carrol's last Sunday with us!
We have appreciated all the hard work she put into our church and the relationships we formed with her in the past 16 months. Thank you, Carrol! We're excited to see what wonderful things you do next!

We are hosting a rummage sale, Thrifts and Gifts, next Saturday, April 25th from 8 am to 2 pm! Stop by the church gym and rummage through all of the amazing donations! We have a full drum set, a bar counter, kids toys and clothes, books, and so so much more!
The best part is that all money from the rummage sale will go toward the children and youth program!
