Missioner Monday: Installation of The Rev. Bruce W. Cory as Priest-in-Charge for Christ Church Harlan, St. John's Episcopal Church Corbin, KY, and St. Mary's Episcopal Church at the Pine Mountain State Resort Park.

What an absolute joy that one of my final acts as your Canon Missioner is to join in the celebration of the launching of this new ministry partnership that has been in the works for the past nine months. I am grateful that Sue, Senior Warden of St. Mary's, asked that the Senior Wardens, Bruce and I gather for a moment after the service to pause to celebrate how much work and prayer brought us here and to share in a group hug. The Senior Wardens (especially in faith communities without clergy presence) really do keep the wheels turning, and these three have done so much to support the launching of this ministry partnership. Thank you Sue, Angie, and Marye!

Bishop Jeff shared how the conversations in the retreat portion before worship inspires him about the future of the church; that the folks and the work being done in the Southern Tier is the future of the Episcopal Church. And in my sermon, I leaned on Robin Wall Kimmerer's book Braiding Sweetgrass, particularly the chapter of the Three Sisters Garden. Our gifts, talents, and capacity are only enriched when we lean upon each other, not because we become one, but because as she puts it, all flourish is mutual. Amen and alleluia!

A Collect for the Feast of St. Bartholomew

Almighty and everlasting God, who gave to your apostle Bartholomew grace truly to believe and to preach your Word: Grant that your Church may love what he believed and preach what he taught; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

We can't calculate the number of hearts and lives on the mountain that were changed by their time at the Cathedral Domain this summer. But we can give a few other numbers!

This summer, campers:

Spent 56 hours swimming and 126 hours climbing and rappelling
Hiked an estimated 5,000 collective miles
Completed more than 1,000 crafts
Enjoyed over 10,000 meals

AND, most importantly, faith remained at the heart of the summer, with:
8 Eucharistic services
3 healing services
42 Morning Shrine prayers
More than 50 communal prayer and worship experiences throughout the season

Thanks to Justin and Elena Vogel and their children, the Domain staff, counselors, and volunteers, and all those in the diocese who support and love the Cathedral Domain!
