Our theme for the day is Making Room. Just as God made room for us through Jesus, we want to learn how to make room for others through acts of service, hospitality, and compassion.

We continue reading through the letters from John with Pastor Adam this week and a look at 1 John 2:12-17. A perfect passage for Father's Day, we invite you to join Pastor Adam as we consider why John describes believers as children, young men, and fathers and places the encouragement to children young men and fathers placed before warnings against loving the world? Join us for this week's Seven Minute Sermon.

At Open Door Church, we have found great blessings in opening our doors. Loving God and loving our neighbor comes with great moments of beauty and pain, joy and sorrow, breakthroughs and setbacks. We also do this by partnering with other ministries and movements that are working to open doors of peace and justice throughout our community. Below are some of our kingdom partners. One of the directions we felt the Lord leading us this year in regard to our vision of Making Room was college ministry. Often when we hear that term, we get a picture in our head of what that looks like - meals, small groups or college-aged worship services, fun hangouts, etc. But as we prayed and researched what was needed in our area, we found that there were a lot of churches already doing those things. So we asked the Lord to lead us to college students on the margins, without access to or availability for traditional college ministry.

By God’s grace, we were led to One Parent Scholar House, a nonprofit that provides housing and support for single parent college students close to our church. One Parent Scholar House currently serves 78 single parents with young children who are in varying levels of need. We spoke with the coordinator about a partnership where we are able to support their work overall and more specifically, sponsor one parent each year as they work towards finishing their degree.

This Sunday we were able to hear the story of our sponsored college student and we are excited to see how the Lotd will continue to lead us in serving this community.

Fear says,”Hide.”
Jesus says, “Come into the light.”

Fear says,”Protect yourself.”
Jesus says,”Trust me.”

Fear says, “If people knew the real you, they wouldn’t stay.” Jesus says, “I know the real you and I’m still here and always will be.”

Join Pastor Christina for this week’s Seven Minute Sermon as we read our letter from John this week (1 John 2:1-11). How does playing hide-and-seek keep us from making room for more love and less fear in our lives?

What does it look like to practice fellowship? Pastor Matthew offers us his thoughts in this quarter's devotional practice.

"What do we mean by fellowship? The Greek word here is koinonia, which means “close association involving mutual interests and sharing, association, communion, fellowship, close relationship.”[1] We are called, not to mere friendship or acquaintance, but..." Read more at the link below!

1 John 1:3-4 - We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. 4 We write this to make our joy complete.
