MISLED: Developing Biblical Discernment in an Age of Deception

LESSON ONE: WHY DISCERNMENT MATTERS

What if not everything we hear—even when it sounds spiritual—is actually biblical?

Starting next Wednesday at 6:30 PM, Pleasant Hill Church will begin a new Bible Study series, MISLED, designed to help us develop biblical discernment in an age of deception.

Our first lesson will challenge us to learn how to test every teaching by the authority of God's Word. As 1 John 4:1 reminds us:

“Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God…”

This is a study for ALL—whether you have been walking with Christ for years or are just beginning to study the Bible more deeply.

In Loving Memory of Sister Sammie Mae Wise

It is with deep sorrow, yet with faith in God’s promises, that the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church family announces the passing of our beloved member, Sister Sammie Mae Wise.

Sister Wise transitioned from labor to reward during the early morning hours. She fought a courageous fight, overcoming many challenges along the way, and through it all she remained surrounded by the love of her family, friends, and those whose lives she touched.

Her son shared that just days ago they spent precious time together, laughing, doing her nails, and making memories. She also took time to call many of her dear friends and family. Those moments now serve as a powerful reminder that tomorrow is not promised and every opportunity to love, forgive, encourage, and cherish one another is a gift from God.

The Word of God reminds us:

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7

We ask that you keep the Wise family lifted in prayer during this difficult time. May God surround them with His peace, strengthen them in the days ahead, and comfort them with the memories of a life well lived and deeply loved.

Rest well, Sister Sammie Mae Wise. Your Pleasant Hill family will miss you, but we rejoice in knowing that earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

Revival is here, and we are beginning with a question that every one of us has to wrestle with:

What do you do when temptation puts something in front of you that you know you shouldn't touch?

This Sunday, Pastor Nick Chambers will bring the first message of our revival:

Jesus entered the wilderness after 40 days of fasting and prayer. He was hungry, vulnerable, and yet prepared. When Satan came with temptation, Jesus didn't negotiate, compromise, or give in.

He stood on the Word.

And there's a word for us in that wilderness experience.

Maybe you're facing temptation.
Maybe you're tired of fighting the same battle.
Maybe something is being placed in front of you that looks good—but you know God has told you, **“Don't touch that.”**
