Jennifer Breheny Wallace’s new book argues that "mattering"—the feeling of being valued and having value to add—is a core human need, essential for well-being, and that its erosion is a root cause of modern loneliness, burnout, and lack of purpose. How does this speak to us, as Unitarian Universalists? Rev. Anne will explore these theme on this day when we also celebrate the arrival of new members to First Parish - people who have chosen to ‘matter’ to this sacred community, and who are finding that our faith tradition matters to them as well.

Come and celebrate the ancient pagan holiday of Beltane - a time of new growth, love and connection. We will sing in our sacred sanctuary, we will hear the ancient pipes, and we will rejoice in the newness of spring! Together, let us plant the gardens of our future, because we know that what grows in the dark will burst through the thick earth with color and

Please join our Sanctuary Choir on Sunday, March 22 for a special event -- an afternoon of music and shared reflection to honor the journeys of those who have come to the US in search of their dreams and the promise of America. The concert will center around Wi******er UU Music Director John Kramer’s moving cantata called "The Immigrant Experience", performed by a combined choir of vocalists from area UU congregations and directed by Concord UU Minister of Music Beth Norton. The concert will also feature performances by young musicians from Sociedad Latina, a youth leadership and empowerment program in Roxbury.

Parking at UU Urban Ministry is limited, so carpooling is recommended. Attendees should meet at the church and depart by 2:30pm next Sunday to allow time to drive and park. Admission is free. All proceeds from this event will benefit two local organizations: Refugee & Immigration Assistance Center (RIAC) and Boston Immigration Justice Accompaniment Network (BIJAN). For more information and tickets, visit uuum.org/event-details/the-immigrant-experience.

The 2026 Stewardship Campaign is under way! Each year, members and friends of First Parish make a financial commitment for the upcoming church year, which begins July 1. We build our budget based on these pledges, and they provide about two-thirds of the funds that sustain everything we do together. You can find everything you need to know about the stewardship campaign at https://fplex.org/stewardship/.
We are very happy to report that the entire Board has already pledged, with an average increase of 8.9% over their pledges last year. We hope you will follow their example and give as generously as you can.

Please remember that the campaign ends on March 29th — we need all pledges in by that date.

Thank you!

Voices on the Green, Lexington’s highly-acclaimed live storytelling and music series, seeks storytellers for its spring show, “Plan B,” to be presented at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 8, 2026, at First Parish in Lexington. To be considered for this show, please contact [email protected]

We all know that the best laid plans can go awry: a camping trip is upended by a hurricane, a longed-for move to a new home is cancelled by a worldwide pandemic, your small business is gutted by a sudden downturn in the economy. Or maybe the job you expected elicits a ‘no thank you’ when the job of your dreams suddenly shows up, requiring you to change the plan! How did you pivot, swerve, adapt, or work around the unexpected turn of events? When the train you were riding derailed, when the tsunami hit, when you had a once-in-a-lifetime chance to run off to Europe and left your prior life to do it, or when your betrothed jilted you at the altar, did you pick up the pieces, put one foot in front of the other, and keep a stiff upper lip? Or did Plan B stand for better, bolder, and brighter—and a path that led you to places you never expected to explore? Tell us your story about how you pivoted and found your Plan B!

Send us your pitch for a story by Friday, Feb. 27 to be considered for the May show – we want to hear YOUR story!

On Sunday, February 22, we launch our 2026 Annual Stewardship Campaign: Love Lives Here! First Parish Nurtures a Vibrant Community of Hope. Each year, members and friends make a financial commitment for the upcoming church year. We build our budget for the next fiscal year based on these pledges, which provide about two-thirds of the funds that sustain worship and music, pastoral care, religious education for children and adults, social justice initiatives, and community outreach.

You will hear more about the campaign and our official kickoff during this Sunday’s worship service. We hope you will begin reflecting now on your own commitment for the coming year and the role First Parish plays in your life and in the wider community. Together, our shared generosity makes it possible for love—and hope—to live here.

Please join us this Sunday, February 8, at 3pm for an uplifting afternoon of poetry and music celebrating Black and women poets and composers. The First Parish Sanctuary Choir and guest artists offer a radiant program spanning the Renaissance to today, weaving together choral works with solo and instrumental performances. Songs reflecting winter, darkness, and the search for light are complemented by poetry readings from Lexington poet Daniel Brock Johnson. Warm and hopeful, this winter gathering also serves as a prelude to upcoming music programming at First Parish in Lexington, where we will honor Black and Women’s History Months with music in our Sunday services.

Admission is free. Donations will be gratefully accepted to support the music program at First Parish in Lexington. The program runs approximately an hour. Stay for a reception afterwards to greet our musicians and guest artists!
