Worship at the Well

Worship at the Well Hancock UCC in Lexington's Evening Worship service. We hope “the Well” is unlike any other worship service you've attended. God, you see, is very, very good.

Most Sundays at 5:00pm from September to May, our River Rock Band plays an eclectic range of music, we sing, pass the peace, celebrate communion (open 2 all), light candles in prayer & hear a Good Word. We sit in chairs in a semi-circle, illuminated by candles and soft-light. Instead of an organ we have the River Rock Band playing music that is rich and varied, bluegrass and jazz, Celtic and soulf

ul, rock and gospel–it’s the kind of music you love. The Well is a space that evolves based on how God moves in our hearts. Some weeks we offer services to bless our animals, and other weeks we worship with Jazz music. However, every time we gather, we make time to share our joys and concerns, light candles of prayer, and share in the meal Jesus shared with his friends the night before he died. All so that we might draw closer to the heart of God, and one another. The Well is a space in which truly all are welcome to come and discover how their spirit might be refreshed in community with others on the journey. Then the River Rock Band sends us back out, to live and to love, to serve and to grow. We never leave the same as we came in.

Friends,

Thank you to all of you who spent a little of your Superbowl evening with us, praying and singing for all those who have been involved in the situations in Minneapolis, Maine, and around our country. It was truly a moving experience.

We want to let you know at this time, that we have decided to close this separate page for Worship at The Well at Hancock United Church of Christ. Going forward, you will find all information about both of our Sunday services on Hancock's Facebook and Instagram pages. https://www.instagram.com/hancockchurch/

You also can now easily access information about both Sunday services on Hancock's website, under the "Worship" tab on the menu bar, or at https://hancockchurch.org/worship/ .

The Well's special services will be listed on the Special Services page, also under "Worship" on the menu bar. If you visit Hancock's Music page (under the "Programs" tab on the menu bar), you can scroll down to find some information about The River Rock Band.

Thank you for your support of Worship at The Well, and please, keep spreading the word to friends and family about our unique worship service on Sunday evenings at Hancock.

Friends, next Sunday's Worship at the Well will be a special gathering, Singing and Praying for Minneapolis and Maine.

On Sunday, February 8th, at 5 p.m. in our Clark Hall we will have an hour of prayer, worship, and singing in solidarity with our neighbors in Minneapolis, and Maine.

There will be meditative and protest music, scripture, and a time to bear our hopes and fears and embolden the courage of all who stand for faith and justice. The River Rock Band will lead music put out by the Justice Choir of Minneapolis, Pete Seeger, and traditional protest songs.

All are welcome! We hope you will join us.

THE RIVER ROCK BAND IS LOOKING FOR NEW MUSICIANS!

The River Rock Band, the ensemble that plays at The Well, is looking for new musicians to collaborate with this spring:

Instrumentalists: all types, all genres! We play lots of types of music. Depending on the instrument, you can join us regularly, occasionally, or as a one-off. We love to explore different music, so if you play accordion or tabla, banjo or hardanger, or anything else, we’d love to play with you!

Singers: You could either do a solo and have us accompany you, or sing with the group.

The latter must have good ears and be able to harmonize.

You can find examples of our music on Apple Music, YouTube, and Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/4Zt1hkV6GmUIRHaKivbbf7?si=c0YxUFuUR4imL_eHlMT9Jg )

Musicians need not be members of Hancock, so pass this along to any musician friends who might be interested!

Contact Mark Morgan, [email protected] if you have any questions.

Friends, this Sunday is a wonderful time to invite a friend to church!

We want to draw your attention to the fact that new visitors to Hancock Church's website will now see front-and-center that we are a church with two services! We're hopeful this is a first step in getting the word out about The Well to more people!

The description there now is brief, and so doesn't perfectly paint a picture of the worship experience at The Well. But you can share a link to the page at https://hancockchurch.org/worship/

And bullet points about some of the features include:

- informal and intimate feeling

- lively (as well as contemplative) eclectic music with a band - piano, voice, guitar, and special guests that bring even more from time to time

- communion *every* week that involves folks approaching the alter where our ministers serve bread and cup - also known as intinction (or it can be brought to you at your seat if that is easier for you)

- every week prayers of joy, celebration, concerns and sorrows are spoken as we light candles (unless you wish to simply light a candle which is also welcome)

You may or may not wish to share the longer description below, but it is beautiful and captures the spirit of The Well beautifully. We hope you will share in the way that feels most comfortable to you, about The Well with anyone you know who might be looking for a church with this kind of worship. We know there are people who are, but just don't know they can find it at Hancock.

We have an opportunity to minister to, serve and be in community with a whole new group of people seeking a loving community just like ours but with worship somewhat different from our morning service, or that of most churches in our area!

Thank you, and here's an eloquent description of The Well you may share if you wish:

"We hope “the Well” is unlike any other worship service you've attended. We sit in chairs in a semi-circle, illuminated by candles and soft-light. Instead of an organ we have the River Rock Band playing music that is rich and varied, bluegrass and jazz, Celtic and soulful, rock and gospel–it’s the kind of music you love.

Then the River Rock Band sends us back out, to live and to love, to serve and to grow. We never leave the same as we came in. God, you see, is very, very good."

Thank you for your help!
