Happy Juneteenth! Today marks the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas finally learned they were free, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. Historian Mitch Kachun notes that celebrations of the end of slavery have three goals: "to celebrate, to educate, and to agitate." The road to true equality and equity is still rocky and fraught with challenges, but we are resolute.

Looking to deepen your faith and grow in your understanding of Scripture?

Disciple Bible Study offers a meaningful opportunity to engage God's Word in a deeper way whether you're just beginning your journey with the Bible or have been studying it for years.

In Disciple I, Pastor Chris Whetlor guides participants from Genesis to Revelation, helping uncover the overarching story of Scripture and providing a strong foundation for lifelong study and discipleship. Along the way, you'll gain fresh insights, make new connections, and discover God's Word in a deeper and more meaningful way.

For those continuing the Disciple journey, Pastor Kayla Hegrat invites participants to move beyond learning about Scripture to living it. Together, you'll wrestle with the Word in community, connecting head and heart as you grow in faith alongside fellow believers. This year's continuation course will focus on The Writings, the Gospel of John, and Revelation.

Wherever you are in your faith journey, there's a place for you in Disciple.

Both Disciple 1 and 4 will be on Tuesdays, 6-8 pm, at Relevant Church starting August 25th. Each class has a book cost of $45. Register in person on Sunday in the Fellowship Hall or by emailing [email protected]

The progression is beautiful and powerful: your identity in Christ shapes your conduct, your conduct strengthens unity with other believers, and that unity becomes a compelling witness to the world. When the church walks together in authentic love, it creates something the world cannot ignore or replicate. Unity isn't uniformity - it's coordinated diversity under one God. Different backgrounds, personalities, and perspectives coming together in love because of Jesus. This kind of unity doesn't happen by accident. It requires mature believers who know how to stay together, who choose love over being right, who prioritize the gospel over secondary issues. When you commit to walking worthy alongside other believers, you're participating in something much bigger than personal spiritual growth. You're contributing to a witness that can transform communities and change lives. Your faithful walk, combined with others doing the same, creates a powerful testimony that draws people to Jesus.

In our culture of endless labels and tribal identities, Paul calls us to something revolutionary: letting our identity in Christ supersede every other identity we hold. Political affiliation, cultural background, economic status, race - while these aspects of who we are matter, they cannot be our primary identity. When gospel identity trumps group identity, something beautiful happens. The walls that typically divide us begin to crumble. The Holy Spirit creates a unity that transcends human differences, making the impossible possible. This doesn't mean we ignore our backgrounds or pretend differences don't exist. Instead, it means we find our deepest sense of belonging in Christ and His family. When we gather as believers, we're not primarily Democrats or Republicans, rich or poor, young or old - we're brothers and sisters in the Lord. This shared identity becomes the foundation for genuine unity and love that the world desperately needs to see.
