LBC Breaking Bread

LBC Breaking Bread The Breaking Bread Group at Lewisville Bible Church The bible says, "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.

A place for the Adults of Lewisville Bible Church to come together in fellowship, encouragement and to just have some fun as we build each other up in our walk with Christ. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts." (Acts 2:46 NIV)

"So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going–to–work, and wa

lking–around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well–adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well–formed maturity in you."
-Romans 12:1-2 (MSG)

CALLING ALL YOUNG ADULTS! We are going to be playing some ice hockey/broom ball on the Lewisville Bible Church parking lot at 4:30. It has apparently iced up pretty well and should be fun. We'll be eating afterwards, so if you want to bring some food to snack on that would be great. Can't wait to see everyone on the ice!

Mark 4:35-38 (NIV) - That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

What a picture. As the boat was being tossed by the waves to the point of almost sinking, Jesus is asleep! Have you ever felt that way? That God doesn’t seem to care that you are on the verge of disaster? Yet Jesus wants to make a point to his disciples—there is nothing to fear as long as He is in the boat. God never said we would be exempt from storms; He said that He would never leave us or forsake us. When we believe this, we are watchful for the Word that calms the waves and stills the wind. We have faith in the midst of the storm.

Psalm 130:6 (NIV) - I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning.

Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

This is a prayer of repentance. The Psalmist is describing his soul as a dark place. Have you ever felt that you had messed up so badly that darkness flooded your soul? Instead of looking for answers, look for the Lord. Those who take time to wait and watch with God’s promises will experience something better than answers—they will be filled with the light of God’s presence. Take heart, for though it may seem dark now, dawn is coming.

Psalm 111:10 (NIV) - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.

Notice that wisdom doesn’t begin with knowledge, for knowledge without the fear of the Lord can become destructive. This Psalm tells us that obedience is the first step toward true understanding, so start with a heart that is ready to listen and obey what God says in His word. When you do, you not only gain wisdom and understanding, your heart experiences praise, which brings passion back into your soul, and passion motivates us to use all that we learn for God’s glory.

1 Corinthians 12:18-20 (NIV) - But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body.

Today’s commentary by Dave Whitehead, Senior Pastor, GraceNYC.org

When God created his church, He saw her as a diverse and beautiful community, so don’t be discouraged if you haven’t found your place in your local church. It could be that the role that you are to play is something very unique. The church is made to work best when each person stops trying to copy others and takes their God ordained purpose in that unique community.

Today in Sunday School:

Today we discussed Jesus Christ as being the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). Considering the "Characteristics of a Christ-like mind" (Titus 1:10-16, Luke 24:45, Philippians 2:3) aswell as "Changing Our Minds" (Colossians 3:2, Romans 12:2, 1 Peter 1:13).

Next Sunday:

Next Sunday we're looking at "How do we experience freedom in Jesus Christ?"
