It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend, Luis Felipe Franco Laffitte ("Franco de Jagüey"), who passed away on June 7, 2026.
Franco was much more than a gifted artist - he was a compassionate humanitarian, mentor, and community leader whose impact reached far beyond his hometown of Jagüey Grande, Cuba. For more than fifty years, he dedicated his talents and his heart to serving others through art, culture, and countless acts of generosity in Cuba.
Many supporters of the Armando Rusindo Mission Foundation (ARMF) have been touched by Franco's work. Over the years, he graciously donated many of his beautiful paintings to ARMF and to friends throughout the United States, helping us share both his artistic talent and the spirit of the Cuban people.
As a painter, sculptor, theater artist, set designer, and mentor, Franco inspired generations of artists. He was equally known for his unwavering commitment to helping those in need, often coordinating life-saving resources such as medicines, wheelchairs, catheters, blood donations, and other essential supplies for members of his community.
Franco's artistic legacy can be seen throughout Jagüey Grande - from murals and sculptures to portraits and public works that continue to enrich the lives of those around him. More importantly, his legacy lives on in the countless people he encouraged, supported, and loved.
On behalf of the Armando Rusindo Mission Foundation, we extend our deepest condolences to Franco's family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him. We are grateful for his friendship, his generosity, and the lasting impact he made on our mission and on so many lives.
Rest in peace, Franco. Your art, kindness, and spirit will never be forgotten.
