We’ve had a great first quarter here at SPT, far exceeding our expectations and reaching a wider audience than we had anticipated so early on – here’s a brief recap of what we’ve been up to:
Hypocrisy in Prayer – Looking back at my life before turning 20, I can hardly remember a time when I prayed publicly without hypocrisy in my heart. I can honestly say that I didn’t even care if God answered my prayers – I just wanted to sound good. This is the story of how God radically transformed my prayer life – and how He can do the same with you also.
Attacking Anxiety – When it comes to anxiety and worry, our biggest mistake is playing defense. But instead of waiting for anxiety to attack us, we need to go on the offensive. We need to attack anxiety before it strangles the joy and peace in our lives. From a study of Philippians 4:6-8, we learn how to do this.
The Top Ten Books We Read in 2017 – As someone who always appreciates a good book recommendation, I wanted to share a ranked list of the ten best books I read in 2017. If you’re looking for some great reading material for 2018, you can’t go wrong with these reads.
Pet Sins and How to Deal with Them – We have a dangerous tendency to think that some sins are essentially harmless, and as a result, we aren’t afraid to let them into our lives. At first, we think we can control these “pet sins” because they seem small enough for us to handle on our own. But sin has a way of growing beyond what we can handle. From a study of James 1:14-15 and a few other passages, we learned to see pet sins for what they really are, as well as how to deal with them.
Make Wise Choices – While investing is typically seen as a financial term, it’s crucial that we also pay attention to how we’re investing our time, because unlike money, time is something we spend continually without interruption. We can choose when we want to spend our money, but our time is always being spent. The only thing we can control is how we spend it, and thankfully, in Ephesians 5:15-16, Paul tells us how to make the most of our time.
Top Ten Billy Graham Quotes – Here are my ten favorite Billy Graham quotes – all of which have provided both direction and comfort to me, and I hope they do the same for you.
How the World’s Leading Memory Coach Can Help You Memorize More Scripture – Memorization isn’t a talent that you either have or don’t have – it’s a process, a skill that you can learn if you’re willing to apply yourself. And if we want to hide God’s Word in our hearts, then we need to learn how to memorize effectively. Here’s a few tips from the world’s leading memory coach: Kyle Buchanan
What to Look for in a Spiritual Mentor – Life has a way of disorienting us, and it often takes the godly advice of mature believers to help us navigate through the chaos and confusion of life in a way that glorifies God. From a study of Paul and Timothy’s relationship in 2 Timothy, we see what a godly mentoring relationship looks like and learn what to look for in a spiritual mentor.
Looking ahead to next quarter, I’m planning an in-depth analysis of each of the spiritual gifts and how they affect our personality styles, as well as some practical Bible studies on contentment, forgiveness, stewardship, repentance, and prayer.
