On Saturday during commencement, the Rev. CeCe Armstrong told the 23 graduates of Louisville Seminary they can look at Mark’s gospel as they take on their new roles in ministry — even as they take a minute to beam and say, “Ooh child — we made it!” The Co-Moderator of the 226th General Assembly focused her commencement address, titled “The Plight of the Graduate,” on Mark 8:27-9:1. The Jewish people were gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost. All at once they felt the rushing of a mighty wind and were empowered by the Holy Spirit to speak the languages of those around them. This gift, given by the Holy Spirit, had a life-giving purpose. It enabled all that were present to hear God’s message of salvation. The barriers of race, nation, and language were broken. Learn how the Holy Spirit still empowers us today with Pastor Manuela’s message “A Spirit-filled Church” Acts 2:1-8

Today's Scripture Reading:

Acts 2:1-8
New International Version

The Holy Spirit Comes at Pentecost
2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.

5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: “Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in our native language?
