Seek the Lord!
Ask Him to stir in the hearts of those who are loyal to Him in this nation, that He would bring healing to the country, one heart at a time.

Seek the Lord, you humble of the land, and who do his just commands, seek righteousness, seek humility. – Zephaniah 2:3

A popular joke has circled the internet that says, “Procrastinators of the world, unite… tomorrow!” While this is a humorous way to address people who tend to put things off, might this idea be applied to a believer’s relationship with God? Perhaps you find yourself intending to seek the Lord… later.

It appears as though the Israelites in the Old Testament lived their lives with this mindset. During the time of the prophet Zephaniah, those living in Judah were facing corruption throughout their land. They had begun to include idolatry and religious practices from neighboring people into their daily lives, with some rejecting the worship of God altogether.

Because of these actions, God gave Zephaniah the message to share with the people: that there would soon be judgment upon the world. In today’s passage, Zephaniah called those that were still loyal to God alone to get right with Him immediately, that they might be spared when God poured out His anger.

Zephaniah was calling the righteous of the nation of Judah, who were still loyal to Him, to seek the Lord. The healing of their nation had to start with them – it was not something that could be put off. Today, Christians in the United States need to humbly turn to God. Take Zephaniah’s words to heart and be intentional in seeking the Lord. Ask Him to stir in the hearts of those who are loyal to Him in this nation, that He would bring healing to the country, one heart at a time.
Today’s Verse: Zephaniah 2:3

**Dear Friends and Intercessors, along with our continued fervent prayer for our dear Pastor Wally's healing to be accomplished, we also have two other prayer requests this week. Thank you so much for your important intercession for Pastor Wally and family and these requests below. You are so very much appreciated.

**Long-time CIC Contact in undisclosed location ... Urgent Prayer for GOD's protection:

"By the will of the Lord Jesus and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I have been engaged for several years in the work of preaching the Gospel of the Lord Jesus and establishing house churches—specifically reaching out to Muslims, Hindus, tribal communities, and women who have fallen into the trap of prostitution.

With the change of government in our state ... this month (May 2026) both the persecuted believers and I have begun receiving death threats from various quarters, and we are facing obstructions in our worship of the Lord Jesus. We have already been forced to shut down one house church.

I humbly and earnestly request that you pray to the Lord Jesus for my personal safety, the safety of my family, and the safety of our persecuted believers. May the Lord Jesus cover us with His precious blood, so that those who seek to harm us may not even be able to see us, and that the Lord Jesus may preserve our lives for His own glory.

Your prayers are absolutely essential in our lives. May we never, under any circumstances, forget the Lord Jesus. May the Lord Jesus grant us the strength to endure through every form of persecution. Thank you."

**ALSO ... for Becky who is scheduled for a triple-bipass next week. Thank you for lifting her up for complete healing.

Your Invitation
ntercede for the believers who serve in the three branches of the federal government, that they would take the time to heed Jesus’ invitation to rest awhile with Him.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. – Matthew 11:28

Do you find yourself telling others, “I’m just so busy”? Though all the gadgets and technology are intended to make life easier, they have not made it less hectic. Maybe you find yourself checking and rechecking your phone or watch to the extent that you miss other things in your distraction. Information is constantly available at your finger tips that you never really knew you needed. Perhaps you don’t take the time to read, you just scroll through. From dawn until late in the dark, some people move at an unsustainable pace and then wonder why they are tired! You do not have to be part of that cross-section of society whose sleep is restless, who cannot still their minds from all that needs to be done tomorrow!

Be encouraged. Jesus has invited you to, “Come to me and rest.” As with most invitations, He desires a response from you. Are you putting off resting with Jesus? Do you reply, “Thanks for the invite, Jesus, maybe in a day or two,” or maybe you say, “I can spare ten minutes, then I have to get busy.” Or you may even think, “I am just so exhausted, I wouldn’t be very good company.” The Lord has likely heard every excuse humans can come up with. But, if you struggle with stress and anxiety, rest is what you really need.

So what do you do? Breathe. Slow down. Turn devices off. Unplug. Observe a true time of rest. God initiated a Sabbath, which is observed less and less in these modern times. The Lord knows you and your frame, how you are made, and what your body needs. Rearrange your schedule to read your Bible, pray, and shut things down to rest in a time of reflection on Jesus.

The invitation to rest is always open. Be aware of the adversary’s attempt to steal rest from you. Jesus still says, “Come.” Intercede for the believers who serve in the three branches of the federal government, that they would take the time to heed Jesus’ invitation to rest awhile with Him.
Today’s Verse: Matthew 11:28

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Faith Lens
In these uncertain times, draw near to God in prayer for all those who serve in government and, specifically today, for those serving in the military.

Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. – Isaiah 41:10

The Civil War was the epitome of conflict and claimed more lives than any other war in which the United States has been involved. Once it ended in 1865, records show that within months, 1,000 freed slaves gathered in Charleston, South Carolina, to commemorate the significance of those who had died in battle. By 1868, the 30th day of May was designated as a national day of recognition and somber recollection of those who had given their lives in the war. After the commemoration included the fallen from world wars, Congress changed the date of observance to the last Monday in May.

In the Old Testament, there was division in the ranks. God’s chosen people, Israel, had fought many battles against wicked people who worshiped idols, and the Lord had been their shield and defender. Their welfare had totally depended on God, yet they divided their allegiance between Him and idols. Isaiah and other prophets were sent to declare God’s warnings of judgment alongside messages of His patience, His mercy, His continued love, and care for them. Though enemies would come against them, seven times Isaiah declared, “Fear not!” (Isaiah 41-44); Jehovah was their God who would be with them.

Circumstances in this life are not always pleasant, and difficulties will arise to challenge you. As commentator Warren Wiersbe wrote, if you look at God through the lens of your situation, “He will seem small and very far away; but if by faith you look at your circumstances through God, He will draw very near and reveal His greatness to you.” In these uncertain times, draw near to God in prayer for all those who serve in government and, specifically today, for those serving in the military. The Lord is Protector, Comforter, and Encourager for those who are faithful, and He hears their prayers.

Peace in Times of Trouble
Pray that those serving in public office will turn to the One True God, who can guide them with wisdom to solutions and to peace of mind.

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. – Isaiah 26:3

There are more than 50 songs that have come out in the past decade with “trouble” in the title. Trouble is a guaranteed part of life. Before His crucifixion, Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (John 16:33, NIV). The instabilities of modern life may tempt you to feel anxious, whether it is the fluctuations of the markets and economy or struggles with health or with family members.

Writer Jay E. Adams says, “While God has not yet removed trouble from the Christian or the Christian from trouble, He has, by the Word and His Spirit, given believers all that is necessary to handle the trouble successfully.” The apostle Paul used hardship as an opportunity to glorify Christ. Look again at today’s verse and be encouraged. There are three profound phrases in Isaiah’s statement. First, the outcome “You will keep him in perfect peace.” Then the action, “whose mind is stayed on you,” and the reason, “because he trusts in you.”

The words in Isaiah and the words of Jesus do not sugar coat the struggles of this life. However, they also tell how to deal with them. Keep your mind fixed on the Lord and trust in Him. Then take heart! ”He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4). God can and does work to bring good out of troublesome circumstances, great or small, for His glory.

Those in positions of authority have their own troubles, and the nation has troubles. Receive the Lord’s peace today as you intercede for public officials. Pray that those serving in public office will turn to the One True God, who can guide them with wisdom to solutions and to peace of mind.

Divine Counsel
Pray for the eyes and ears of public officials to be receptive to God’s counsel. Pray for the people of the United States to turn toward the Lord and His righteousness.

I will counsel you with my eye upon you. – Psalm 32:8

It is sometimes not entirely clear who is speaking in a verse such as today’s – whether the psalm writer is advising human counsel or God speaking of His counsel. While David was the one speaking in this psalm, God often interjected His assurances in David’s writings. Both human counsel and God’s counsel are important. Of course, human counsel is only as good as the extent to which it aligns with God’s Word.

Remember the time when the new King of Israel, Rehoboam, sought counsel on how to respond to his people who requested he lighten their burden? The elders advised that he comply with what the people asked and speak to them with kindness. His peers advised harsh words and a heavy hand. Rehoboam went with the younger men’s counsel and reaped trouble. The people rebelled, which led to the splitting of the kingdom. Rehoboam retained Judah while the rest of Israel came under the rule of Jeroboam. Though the result of Rehoboam’s choice was a divided kingdom, God ultimately worked His purpose in the situation (1 Kings 12:24).

You may be tempted to worry about the counsel that influences the government of this nation. Civil unrest, lawlessness, and other issues are concerns of the majority of citizens. Pray for the eyes and ears of public officials to be receptive to God’s counsel. Pray for the people of the United States to turn toward the Lord and His righteousness. His eyes are on this country, and He desires its inhabitants to follow His counsel. The Lord knows what is going on, and He offers comfort to believers. He works all things together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

Endurance and Encouragement
May God’s mercy rest upon this country through the prayers of His Church.

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus. – Romans 15:5

Harmony in music is a blending of sounds to make a beautiful, rich composition that can stir your heart. Harmony in a group of people comes from sharing the same purpose or vision, but that could be either negative or positive. In the time after the Flood, “The whole earth had one language and the same words,” and their purpose became one of building a tower to the heavens so they could make a name for themselves (Genesis 11:1-4). The intent was to prove their sufficiency apart from God. The Lord shifted the unity of that situation to the profound confusion of new and different languages, which dispersed the people over the face of the earth.

God’s intervention was one of discipline in that situation. Look at the description of Him in today’s verse. He is the God of endurance and encouragement – One who is patient with you and will comfort you in affliction. The example He gives to believers in Christ directs you to live in harmony with one another, taking every opportunity to be an encourager to others. No one’s faith is so strong that they do not need a good word; neither is anyone so weak that they cannot encourage another.

Stay steadfast in the truth of God’s Word, especially in times of uncertainty, and unite with fellow believers in the principles He has set out in Scripture. Pray for each other, and intercede for those who govern this nation. Encourage those around you to trust and rely solely on the Lord. May God’s mercy rest upon this country through the prayers of His Church.

Hope for Tomorrow
Pray as the United States honors heroes of the past that citizens and public officials also embrace hope in Christ for the future.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. – Jeremiah 29:11

While Memorial Day is officially about honoring the fallen heroes of the past, it can also provide purpose for future generations to maintain a perspective of sacrifice and service. In times of conflict and unrest, the future may appear daunting. And, for some, discouragement may slowly shift into disappointment with God.

Job is an example of someone whose life took a hard turn. While your circumstances may not be as dire as his, you can certainly understand his very human response in giving voice to his distress, “God has put me in the wrong and closed his net about me” (Job 19:6). However, he did not stay in the mindset of disillusionment. Shortly after making the previous statement, Job adjusted his focus, stating, “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the Earth. And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God” (Job 19:25-26).

The multitude of heroes being commemorated today lived by a type of faith. They would not see the results of their sacrifice, but they trusted their service was not in vain, but a part of the purpose for a better tomorrow. Job exercised his faith by choosing to place his hope in God’s plan despite not having the full picture of Christ in His future human ministry of salvation.

Christ Jesus set the tone for everyone enduring unforeseen hardship: “For the joy that was set before him, he endured the cross” (Hebrews 12:2). Pray as the United States honors heroes of the past that citizens and public officials also embrace hope in Christ for the future.
