In 1881 the Shiloh Presbyterian Church was built adjacent to the cemetery. In 1921 the original building was covered in brick. The church is no longer used for services. In 1898 John W. and Susan D. Baker deeded four acres of land north of the to the Shiloh Cemetery Association. Gordon Graveyard was deeded to the Shiloh Cemetery Association in 1934. The Thomas Lincoln Cemetery Association took control in 1935. At this time, the name of the cemetery was officially changed to the Thomas Lincoln Cemetery.

Thomas Lincoln was a farmer and carpenter. Thomas moved his family to Coles County in 1830, eventually settling at the Goosenest Prairie farm just south of the cemetery in 1840. Thomas Lincoln died and was buried here in 1851. His wife Sarah Bush Lincoln was buried next to him in 1869.

The Thomas Lincoln Cemetery is the burial place of Abraham Lincoln’s father and stepmother. This historic cemetery located approximately 1 ½ miles west of Goosenest Prairie the Lincoln family home. It is located 8 miles south of Charleston, Illinois.
Thomas Lincoln was a farmer and carpenter. Thomas moved his family to Coles County in 1830, eventually settling at the Goosenest Prairie farm just south of the cemetery in 1840. Thomas Lincoln died and was buried here in 1851. His wife Sarah Bush Lincoln was buried next to him in 1869.
