Our help is needed now more than ever! Our wounded veterans face many challenges - medical, physical, psychological, and social. Among the many issues facing our veterans, two have risen to critical levels: homelessness and su***de.

Homeless vets have sadly become a common sight. On just one single night in January last year, our country had 37,800 homeless vets and 23,300 of them without shelter. The image of a vet living on the streets with nothing more than a discarded piece of cardboard is not only an embarrassment but also deplorable.

Many veterans see no light at the end of the tunnel. Twenty-two veterans commit su***de daily and the number continues to rise. We, as a nation, must own this statistic. As Peter O'Rourke, former Director of Veteran Affairs, said, "One life lost to su***de is one life too many."

These statistics are shocking! Hopefully, you are saying, "But what can I do?" The answer is simple - become a corporate sponsor of the First Annual Central New Jersey Columbian Charities Knights of Columbus Fire Truck Pull for Wounded Veterans. The Pull is scheduled for September 28, 2019 at the Lakewood BlueClaws Stadium (FIrstEnergy Park). One Hundred (100) percent of the net proceeds of this event will be donated to assist wounded veterans through support of two outstanding national programs - the Gary Sinese Foundation and Mission 22 - and direct support of local veterans.

The Knights have a proven track record in fundraising. Last year, the Knights of Columbus raised and donated over $185.6 million in donations for charitable needs and projects. Members also volunteered over 75.6 million hours of charity work. Our charitable activities include local, national, and international projects including, but not limited to, Special Olympics, the Global Wheelchair Missions, Habitat for Humanity, Coats for Kids, Food for Families,as well as many other local projects including food banks and veteran programs.

Last year, the Knights of the Trenton Diocese combined to send 145 soldiers home for the Holidays!!

If you cannot put together a team, perhaps you may consider sponsoring a team or a direct monetary donation. Your donation will be tax deductible as we are a nonprofit corporation organized and operating under the IRS Code 501(c)3. Please be assured that your corporate or individual sponsorship will be publicly acknowledged at the event!

What a great evening at the Comedy Show Dinner for Maryann Murray-Levine last night at St. Mary's School in Middletown! Such a great turn-out and thank you to the Knights of Columbus for always being there when it counts.
It was a very touching moment when Maryann's daughter, Sarah, spoke to the attendees. She did a wonderful job and it was nice to have her and Mary's sister, Kathy Calvert, and her husband, Rich at the event! And to finally meet the lady who has been Maryann's angel, Laurie Trovato and her family. . .just a great night!

Of course, a very special thank you to Mr. Stephen Taliercio, owner of Talierio's Ultimate Gourmet in Middletown, for sponsoring last night's event. Mr. Taliercio donated the food to feed 200 and so many people commented on how great the meal was! Steve, thank you for ALWAYS being there for the Middletown Community.

To the Knights of Columbus State Officer, James E. Stoever, and the Lady Marlene, thank you for initiating this event and for sponsoring the entertainment provided by Ginger Ninja!! Mollie Speduto, Natty Bumpercar, Joe Fernandes, and the headliner, Mike Gaffney, did a super job last night!!

If you ever need to book a special event, nobody does the food like Stephen Taliercio of Taliercio's and I also would recommend Ginger Ninja Entertainment.
To all my Brother Knights, I thank you for always standing up when it counts. The Knights of Columbus and their families are a special group! In particular, I would like to thank Sir Knight John Housen (Financial Secretary of the Lombardi Council) and fellow District Deputy Sir Knight John Flynn (Donnelly Council) for all the work they have put in over the last 4 months getting ready for the event.
Lombardi Brothers Bob Castner, Charles Gentile, Vaughn Kuhlmeier, Mike McCarthy, Michael Gaynor, Jeff Kandravy, Robert Lauricella and John Gaffney teamed with Donnelly Council brothers Dave Convery, Mike Napolitano Nick Burke, and Greg Kane came together and worked hard to help make this such a special event!
In closing, God Bless Maryann Murray-Levine and her family. We will post the final results once they are all in but we raised about $15,000.00 for the Murray-Levine Fund!
Thank you, all!
