A SPECIAL INVITATION FOR MOTHER'S DAY (bring flowers!)
Dear Church Family and Leominster Community,
This Sunday, May 10, is Mother’s Day. I am writing to let you know how we will be observing this special day in worship. I hope you will come and invite a friend who may find this service meaningful!
Toward the beginning of the service (before the children are invited to go to Sunday School), we will have a special time for honoring mothers. During this time, all worshippers will be invited to come forward to contribute one or more flowers to an arrangement on the altar in honor of a mother figure, or multiple mother figures. You will also be invited (but not required) to share the name(s) of the mother figure(s) you are honoring. ***If you would like to participate, please bring the flowers you would like to contribute.*** Any kind of flower is welcome: purchased flowers, flowers from your home garden, or even wildflowers! If you have extra flowers, please consider bringing the extras along for anyone who might have forgotten or been unable to supply their own.
Examples of mother figures you may wish to honor include: mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, foster mothers, aunts, godmothers, your children or grandchildren’s mother, friends or others in your life who have “mothered” you, or anyone else you want to honor on this special day.
After this special time, we will offer a short Mother’s Day blessing. The rest of the service will be less focused on our earthly mothers and more focused on worshipping God and considering how God “mothers” us with amazing grace and perfect love. I hope you will join us Sunday morning at 9:30am!
While Mother’s Day can be a celebratory and joyous occasion for many, it is important to acknowledge that this holiday can also be a sad, painful, and complicated for others. For some, it is both. Whatever the case for you, you are invited to come as you are and find grace and healing: bring your regrets and your sorrows, bring your grief and your frustration, bring your joy and your gratitude. God’s arms are big and strong enough to hold…and to heal…it all.
Grace and peace,
Pastor Michelle
