The fool's denial happens "in his heart." This psalm exposes a life lived as though God need not be considered, not merely an intellectual question. Its accusation invites self-examination rather than contempt for neighbors who doubt. Where have I made room for wrongdoing because no one seemed to notice?

At the time it was written, shepherding was a very common activity. Sheep are nearly defenseless against predators, and they scare easily, especially in groups. Let the Lord be your shepherd and guide you to more tranquil places. He will lead you on the right path if you are willing to follow. Think of the consequences for a sheep: follow and be protected, eat, rest, and survive or stray and be alone, starve, fear, and die. The choice is easy.

What is it that you think about when you first wake up? Your busy day? Spouse? Children? Work? Money? Or is it God? The teachings of our Lord and our Savior Jesus Christ have been passed down for thousands of years, and it is our duty to continue to pass the teachings and traditions down to future generations. He should be in our minds with everything we say, do, and even think. With God as the stronghold of your life, of whom shall you be afraid?

We pray you are ready! If you have any doubts, just say this simple prayer and believe in your heart...
"Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner, and I ask for Your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sins and invite You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow You as my Lord and Savior. In Your Name. Amen."

Paul's message here is one of my favorites in the Bible: instead of thinking of the old decrees telling you what NOT to do, think instead of what you SHOULD do. "Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." An important aspect that is often overlooked is whether or not you love yourself. Not causing harm to others and trying to love other people makes it much easier to love yourself. Leave everything else to God!

It is strange that we often hold back our true feelings for our most precious loved ones. Sometimes it can be a huge regret to us, not saying how much we love and appreciate someone until it is too late. Give thanks to God for good friends and family, and give thanks to them as well. A little love like that goes a long way.

As it says in James 4:10, "Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up." Does being first matter when there is everlasting life awaiting us? If you want to be first, Jesus says, it is not about being ahead of others or above them. It is about wanting to serve EVERYONE. Being the last person to want to be ahead is the only way to finish first in the Lord's eyes.
