Baptism is a sacrament, meaning it's a visible sign of an invisible grace, instituted by Christ.
It's not just a public declaration of faith, but a means through which God acts to apply the benefits of Christ's atoning work to the believer.

Through baptism, the believer is united to Christ's person and his history, meaning they can be said to have died to sin, been buried, and raised to new life with Christ.
This union also unites Christians to each other, forming one body in Christ.

While faith is essential for receiving the benefits of baptism, it is not the basis for baptism itself, but rather the response to God's prior grace.

We give all the praise to our Lord Jesus Christ!
