The Bible is not an end in itself.

We read it because, through it, God makes himself known and leads us to Jesus Christ—the One in whom salvation is found.

To neglect Scripture is to neglect the chief way God has chosen to reveal Christ to us. To receive it, learn it, and live by it is to be formed more deeply in the truth of the gospel.

May we be a people who open the Scriptures not merely to gain information, but to know Christ, trust Christ, and be shaped by Christ.

Q3: What has God given to direct us how to be saved from sin?

A3: The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, which are the Word of God, contain all things necessary to salvation.

Sin leaves us in the dark about how to get back to God. And left to ourselves, we'd do little more than wander in circles. So God didn't leave it to guesswork. He gave us His word.

Scripture isn't one voice among many you weigh against your own instincts. It's the final word — the place you go to actually know, not just hope you're right. Everything you need for salvation and a life that pleases God is already there.

So, why not open it today?

"All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness." - 2 Timothy 3:16

The Church Calendar: Ordering Life by the Story of the Gospel 🕊️

The church has long kept time differently, not as a checklist to complete, but as an invitation to live inside the story of Jesus. Year after year, the calendar walks us through the gospel, from longing to glory:

🟣 Advent: We wait, and remember why we needed Christ to come - and why we still need him
🟡 Christmas: The Word puts on flesh and joins us in our world
🟡 Epiphany: Christ's glory is revealed to the nations
🟣 Lent: We prepare our hearts through prayer, fasting, and other spiritual disciplines
🔴 Holy Week: The climax of the year, Christ crucified and risen
🟡 Easter: Fifty days of celebration. He is risen indeed!
🟢 Pentecost & Ordinary Time: The Spirit is poured out, and the church grows in the life of the Triune God

None of this earns us anything. Christ has already done the work, and we are already His. The calendar is simply a gift, a way to slow down and let the gospel soak into the ordinary rhythms of our days, so that we are shaped by the story, not just reminded of it.

On Monday, we were reminded that sin keeps us from finding our happiness in God.

Charles Wesley gives us this truth in a powerful image:

“Long my imprisoned spirit lay,
fast bound in sin and nature’s night…
My chains fell off, my heart was free.”

Sin not only make us guilty; it binds us. It turns us inward, confuses us, and keeps us from the joy for which we were made.

But the grace of Christ does more than pardon. It frees us!

The gospel is the good news that, in Christ, the chains can fall off, the heart can be made free, and we can begin to find our true happiness in God.

Q2: What prevents your happiness in God?

A2: Sin prevents my happiness in God, and always leads to misery, both now and in the life to come.

Last week we saw that you were made for joy in God. So why doesn't it feel that way? Why do we chase after things that promise fulfillment but only deliver fleeting happiness at best - and misery at worst?

Sin isn't just "breaking rules." It's choosing something other than God as the source of your joy. And it never delivers. It always leads somewhere worse than where it found us. Every time.

The good news isn't that God lowers the bar. It's that He offers something sin can't: real, lasting joy, found only in Him.

"There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death." - Proverbs 14:12

John Wesley believed theology didn’t need to wait for grown-up words.

In one sermon, he pictured a parent walking outside with his child and pointing up: "See that up there — the sun? See how bright it is? Feel how warm it is on your skin? It makes the grass grow, and everything else too. But God made the sun. Without God, the sun couldn't shine or warm anything at all."

That's how Wesley thought theology should start — not with complicated theological terms, but with whatever's right in front of us. The sun. The grass. Our own two hands. Every ordinary thing pointing back to God.

And then the deeper truth, said just as plainly, over and over, from the earliest age: you were made to be happy in him.

"In this plain and familiar way a wise parent might, many times in a day, say something of God; particularly insisting, ‘He made you; and he made you to be happy in him; and nothing else can make you happy.’ We cannot press this too soon. If you say, ‘No, but they cannot understand you when they are so young;’ I answer, No; nor when they are fifty years old, unless God opens their understanding: And can he not do this at any age?”
— John Wesley, Sermon 114, ‘On the Unity of the Divine Being’

Q1: Why did God make you?

A1: ‘I was made to be happy in God, and I will be restless until I find my rest in him.’

You weren’t made to work 40 hours a week until retirement. Or to be a ‘good person.’ Or to keep all the rules. Or to chase the next big thing.

Your deepest purpose is joy — real, lasting joy, found in God’s presence. Everything else in life flows from Him.

Where are you chasing after purpose? It’s time to quit running and find true rest in your Creator.

“You will make known to me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.” - Psalm 16:11

🎶 Introducing Our Digital 'Hymnal' — Songs to Learn and Sing Together

As we prepare to launch, our team has put together a collection of the songs that will make up the heart of our worship together — ancient hymns, songs released last year, and everything in-between, all gathered in one place so you can listen, learn, and sing along at home, in the car, or wherever you need a reminder of the God Who is.

These aren't just the songs we'll sing on Sundays.

They're the songs we want shaping us — our prayers, our confessions, our hope — all year long.

The more familiar they become to you during the week, the more we'll be able to sing them together, as one voice, when we gather.

Listen wherever you stream music:
