Immigrant Connection at Clearwater will ensure access to vital immigration legal services in Florida and the surrounding region. Each new Local IC site is a powerful step towards our vision: When every immigrant family in the US has access to immigration legal services, all families and communities can thrive.

Immigrant Connection is a nationwide network of immigration legal service providers that has served over 40,000 immigrants and their families in the last 10 years, and
across the United States, the Immigrant Connection Legal Network stands with immigrants and their families. We celebrate our sites, our staff, and we celebrate each client we have the privilege of journeying with.

A new resource from the National Immigration Forum Action Fund provides voters with facts- and values-based guidance on immigration.

The new voter guide offers an in-depth comparison of the candidates on an issue that more than 60% of voters have said is "very important to their vote."

"Using the candidates’ statements and governing policies, [the guide] examines each of their records on key immigration issues such as border security, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), and refugee resettlement," the guide reads.

"Voters want candidates who talk about pragmatic border, asylum and legal-immigration solutions — not fear-based rhetoric," said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum Action Fund. "This guide will be a valuable tool for voters to educate themselves on the real distinctions between the candidates."

Immigration is a central issue in the leadup to the 2024 election. Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Trump have presented markedly different approaches to immigration and its value to the United States, and voters’ decision will determine our nation’s approach to immigration poli...

“Forgive us, dear Haitian sisters and brothers, for the ways your culture was dishonored yesterday. And for any resulting disparagement or shame you may experience in the aftermath. You are beautiful and made in the image of God!

From National Immigration Forum this afternoon, Sept. 9, 2024:

New Survey: Strong Majority of Americans Want Solutions from Candidates

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Ahead of tomorrow’s debate, new polling shows that Americans prefer political candidates who focus on solutions for our immigration system rather than employ negative rhetoric about immigrants.

In a Bullfinch Group and National Immigration Forum survey of 1,200 adults, including 1,000 registered voters, about two-thirds of participants said they’d prefer "a candidate who focuses on solutions and says things like ‘we need to modernize our immigration system so that legal, hard-working migrants can legally come to our country, work and be a part of the American dream.’"

Fewer than 1 in 5 said they’d prefer "a candidate who uses dehumanizing language against immigrants and says things like ‘we need to round up illegal aliens and deport them all from our country.’"

Republican voters, too, preferred candidates focused on solutions.

"Support for solutions-focused candidates is strong among Republicans and Democrats alike," said Jennie Murray, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum. "Most Americans know we need tangible solutions that strengthen our country. They are not interested in fearmongering.

"Candidates should come to the table ready for a productive conversation on the border and immigration, one that combines security and compassion."

When we first returned to the US after having served as Global Missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene for more than a decade, we KNEW within our hearts that our ministry calling would flourish amongst those who were in the margins - vulnerable children, elderly folks experiencing loneliness, and vulnerable immigrants. Our first congregation in Tavares, FL really embodied this intention and for the past 8+ years at Melbourne First Church of the Nazarene, we have had a front-row seat to watching God use INCREDIBLE people to embody this vision and mission.

Pam and I have also had a lifelong love of university students and their vast potential, skill, and eagerness to make an impact for change in the world.

For nearly ten years, I have had the privilege of being and advocate with and a consultant for the Evangelical Immigration Table and the National Immigration Forum. This year, the Forum is piloting an initiative with 4 universities affiliated with the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (Malone, Grand Canyon, Northwestern, and Trevecca Nazarene University) and I have the privilege of working with some AMAZING students in Nashville who are passionate about helping shape helpful conversations about and advocacy for immigrants and immigration reform. The Forum's pilot initiative, "Students of Welcome" at Trevecca, partnered with their student government's "Inclusion and Belonging" team will be hosting this INCREDIBLE panel discussion on September 24.

The panel will include Benjamin Frabie, a local Nashville high school teacher who has not only been teaching English to speakers of other languages, but has coached SO many young people into pathways of success.

Another star panelist is my brother, Néstor Hernandez, who serves as Director of Patient Access - helping marginalized people find access to quality healthcare through a great organization called Project Access: Nashville.

And then (and perhaps I'm his biggest fan), I'm super excited to also see Arturo Castellanos Canales, my colleague and immigration policy specialist (on multiple fronts - including immigration law, US economy, workforce, national security, etc.) representing the Forum as a part of this panel discussion.

So - if you are in the Nashville area on Tuesday, September 24 from 3pm - 4:30pm, I want invite (and insist) you to come to this really stellar event hosted by some genius university students (shout out to Ethan Rice, Students of Welcome ambassador; along with the SGA Inclusion & Belonging Student Director: Melissa Colorado and Coordinator, Dani Andret).

Pastors, teachers, medical professionals, church volunteers, business leaders - this will be a VALUABLE experience!
(CEU/continued education unit certificates will be awarded for participation).

It is not the responsibility of desperate immigrants to fix the outdated, obsolete US immigration fiasco; it is the responsibility of the US Congress and the voters who elected them.

As the National Immigration Forum is following this closely, I applaud these Republican and Democrat leaders for doing the work of building a united, bipartisan coalition to bring America's immigration system into the 21st century.

Reps. Tom Suozzi (D-NY-03) and Morgan Luttrell (R-TX-08) are building a coalition to craft urgent border security and immigration reforms.
