I do a fair bit of Chaplain work. Within my Masonic Lodge I feel it is one of the greatest offices in the Lodge. That connection with the Divine and honoring others’ views as well.
A few years ago, my wife and I started a small organization called “Marshall Ministries”. This was started as a protest of sorts. It was back before marriage equality laws were put in place.
Marshall Ministries offer weddings, funeral services, commitment ceremonies, we will even do a baby dedication if requested. As we are not affiliated with a specific denomination, we do not do baptisms.
When we are asked for these services, we are always asked what we charge. We don’t. The reason behind this is simple. How do you put a price tag on the priceless? I know I sure can’t and won’t. What we will do is ask for a donation to be made to a charity in our name. You pick the amount.
Last night we were awarded the Diamond Level donor from the Kansas Masonic Foundation. I want to take a moment to say why I have and will always choose the Kansas Masonic Foundation for this work. Here are just a few things the Foundation has been doing.
800,000.00 for a new mobile cancer screening clinic (Hope on Wheels) to provide free cancer screenings to those in the state. They have donated over 40 million to the KC Cancer Center for research. They also award Kansas Students with Scholarships, and Awards for an Essay Contest. The Kansas Masonic Foundation will also work with local Lodge with Matching Funds to assist the Lodge in working with their local community with assistance to food banks, etc. This is not to mention over 100,000.00 in local community grants.
This is why if Marshall Ministries does chaplain work for you, we will never keep the money. Again, how can you put a price tag on the priceless? But we will pass the funds onto other great works being done in the State by the Foundation.
We do not see this as charity, but an investment.
We see this as a win/win for everyone.
