Franciscan Sisters of Chicago A congregation of women devoted to prayer & serving the needy. We minister in retirement communities

We're an exceptional congregation of women that share the commitment of daily prayer and serving the needy along with the joys and sorrows of life in community. We do this by ministering in the fields of senior housing, continuing care retirement communities, pastoral care, education and social services. Our life manifests the Franciscan spirit of prayer, poverty, simplicity, joy and ongoing conversion.

A Church in History - Presenter: Dawn Mayer -
By Mary Mosser, FSC Associate

Dawn started our day with a prayer and a quick summary of her March presentation on the Apostolic era (30 AD–100 AD). During the Apostolic period, early Christians continued to worship in the Temple, then gathered in their homes to pray, reflect on Jesus’ teachings, remember His life and resurrection, and break bread together. The homes where they worshipped were known as house churches.

The New Testament was composed during the Apostolic era, but centuries passed before it was recognized. By the 2nd century, the four Gospels were widely accepted. In the 3rd century, the core collection of books was universally accepted. Finally, in the 4th century, the 27-book canon was recognized. A Major Announcement on OLV Cemetery

As the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago continue their journey, a major decision has been made on the future of Our Lady of Victory Cemetery that is on the campus of Our Lady of Victory convent. After a lengthy discussion with the Archdiocese of Chicago, the Franciscan Sisters of Chicago have made the decision to move all interred Sisters buried in this cemetery to Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois. Though it was a difficult decision, the Sisters felt that Holy Sepulchre Cemetery would be a beautiful final resting place for all the Sisters. The process of transferring each grave plot, under the direction of Catholic Cemeteries employees, is scheduled in the coming weeks. The overall move will be done with the utmost respect for each interred Sister and follow the guidelines of Catholic reburial. Read More here: https://www.chicagofranciscans.org/olv-cemetery-move
