Samoa/Lutheran Feeding Ministry We are currently the largest food distributor in San Diego County. Other food distribution programs in our area have closed their doors due to lack of funding.

We are the largest free weekly food distribution service in San Diego County run by the joint efforts of the Samoa Independent Full Gospel Church and Lemon Grove Lutheran Church. This has had a devastating impact on the entire county and increases the very problem we are trying to alleviate. With the higher rate of unemployment and poverty, we see seniors, veterans, teenagers, pregnant women, the

disabled, single parent and whole families seeking help. We have partnered with the Jacob & Cushman San Diego Food Bank and Feeding America. We purchase food at discount prices for our monthly distributions, 211 referral food pantry, and weekly community dinners. Last year, we provided food to over 70,000 individuals and this year’s goal is to do the same for more than 100,000. In addition to providing free food on two distribution days a month, we have a “Soups On” dinner that serves a hot meal to 100+ individuals every Monday night. A new food pantry is open four days a week responding to 211 county social services emergency food assistance calls. All of our programs are staffed by a small group of volunteers, some of whom once stood in the same lines they now serve.
