Offering profound prayers of thanksgiving to the Lord on this 12th Anniversary of Installation as Bishop of Toledo! So grateful for having been called to teach, govern and sanctify this great local Church, and so grateful to all the wonderful lay faithful, families, young people, consecrated religious, deacons and priests who make up the flock here in Northwest Ohio! Please remember me in your rosary today as you pray the Luminous Mysteries, given to the Church by St. John Paul II, asking his intercession on this his feast day and begging Our Lady's maternal care.

Did you know? Bishop Daniel E. Thomas chose October 22 for his installation as Bishop of Toledo because it marked the first celebration of St. John Paul II’s feast day following his canonization.

For 15 years, then-Father Thomas served at the Vatican’s Congregation for Bishops during John Paul II’s pontificate, with opportunities to meet and speak with the Holy Father, whom he regarded as a spiritual father.

That connection also holds special meaning for Rosary Cathedral. In his installation homily on October 22, 2014, Bishop Thomas expressed his hope that the Luminous Mysteries, given to the Church by St. John Paul II in 2002, would one day be depicted in the cathedral. Now, that hope is becoming a reality, with artwork being prepared to complete the depiction of all 20 mysteries of the Rosary!

Today, October 22, the Memorial of Saint John Paul II, we invite the faithful of our diocese to join in prayer for our shepherd.
