Where are the Deacons?

It's been quite some time since deacons stopped by my home on Sunday to collect the fast offerings I had set aside to donate. Where are they now?

Has electronic tithes and offerings taken away the opportunity for these young men? I'm certain they don't feel "robbed" about this and are likely grateful they don't have to walk around the neighborhood collecting.

However, these deacons are a wonderful reminder that "The Law of the Fast" should be part of our lives.

In Matthew 22:37–40, we read:

37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38 This is the first and great commandment.

39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.

"This law is based upon a primary yet profound principle—a simple practice—that, if observed with the proper spirit, will help us draw closer to our Heavenly Father and strengthen our faith, while at the same time help us ease the burdens of others." -Elder Wirthlin, April, 2001

When I, or someone close to me, has a pressing need and fast Sunday comes around, fasting doesn't seem to be too difficult. The time flies by and next thing I know, I am eating a wonderful meal and blessings are being poured out to those in need. Not just from my fast, but from the donations I give because of my fast.

Blessings for everyone!

On the flip side, when I don't have something or someone on my mind, my fast seems to take forever; time stands still.

After stake conference and listening to President Jensen, I began to ponder some of these thoughts and to "work" in receiving revelation.

I received a "duh" moment.

Where am I with my service and in living the great commandments? Why isn't there "always" someone in my mind that is driving my fast? Am I reaching out to my families that I have committed to minister to? Am I being a good neighbor and friend? Am I being a true and faithful servant of my lord and savior, Jesus Christ?

This coming Sunday is fast Sunday. Let us prepare for it by reaching out to family, friends, neighbors and make a determined effort to fast on their behalf. And to pay a generous fast offering to help someone you don't know in their time of need.

I love to see the temple. I'm going there someday...

These familiar lyrics from primary certainly applied yesterday as I had the opportunity to attend the Manti temple before it undergoes renovations.

The Manti temple is the 3rd dedicated temple in operation and is scheduled to close for renovation on October 1, 2021.

After it was announced this temple would undergo renovations, many were concerned about the loss of the murals that exists on the walls of the temple, that they would be lost.

President Nelson and the Quorum of the twelve met and discussed these concerns resulting in an announcement by President Nelson on May 1, 2021 "that modifications had been made to the renovation plans for the Manti Utah Temple". The murals would remain.

It is a different experience to attend an endowment session where the temple workers do their best to "act" the presentation. As some struggle to remember their lines, fervent prayers are offered by the patrons on their behalf.

I was amazed how my attention stayed fixed, trying to parallel live acting vs the video presentation from other temples. Concluding the session, I found myself sitting in the celestial room overwhelmed by the spirit, feeling like this was "exactly" where I belonged.

In Fall General Conference 2008, President Uchtdorf gave a talk, "Lift Where You Stand".

In that talk, we can learn that it doesn't matter where we are, but if we "lift" and serve those around us we are living the 2nd great commandment, "Love your neighbor".

You never know the prayers you are answering when you serve others around you. Let your light shine and do good works!

Hello Ward Family, I apologize for the interruptions during our broadcast yesterday (9/27/20). We have alerted the stake to the bandwidth issue we were experiencing and hope to have some better solutions in place by Oct 11. I do have a written version of the talk given should anyone feel like they need to connect the dots. 😄

I am trying to arrange the music for our ward sacrament meetings being held the 4th Sunday of every month. I am short choristers, pianists, and organists!
Is there anyone willing to serve one Sunday a month by leading our sacrament music or playing the three hymns for a meeting?
Please message/text/call me if you are!

Thank you!
