My Pastoral Response to the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s death
In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s tragic death, my heart aches for his family. We must lift up his wife and children in prayer during this unimaginable time of loss. No one should have to witness the murder of a loved one, and I can only begin to fathom the depth of their pain. It brings to mind the sorrow of Mary, the mother of Jesus, who witnessed her son’s crucifixion surrounded by hostility.
I know that opinions about Charlie are divided, and some people may feel anger toward him. But as followers of Christ, we are called to respond with love, not hate. Jesus calls us to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:44). It’s easy to let our emotions take over, but we must remember to seek the truth. Instead of jumping to conclusions, let’s take the time to understand what he actually said and where he stood. Some of the criticism might stem from misquotes or exaggerations.
Now, I might have not agreed with every word Charlie Kirk has spoken, nor do I put my hope in any political figure. But when Charlie spoke up for biblical values like the sanctity of life, the importance of family, and the freedom to live out our faith, I find myself in agreement with him. Those convictions are grounded in Scripture. These are truths we should champion as Christians. Our loyalty should be to Jesus above all else, who is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
It’s okay to disagree with someone, but we must guard our hearts against hatred. Hatred clouds our judgment and prevents us from seeing the truth. Instead, let’s choose love. Let’s evaluate every message—whether from Charlie, a politician, or anyone else—against God’s Word. If it aligns with Scripture, we embrace it; if not, we can let it go with grace. But in all things, let’s speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and keep Christ at the center.
In times like these, let’s come together, support one another, and focus on what truly matters: our faith in Jesus and our commitment to love. May our discussions lead us closer to Christ, our true source of hope and strength.
With Christ’s Love, Truth, and Grace,
Rev. Charles A. Walker
