Merry Christmas!

Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to
take our nature upon him, and to be born this day of a pure
virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made
your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed
by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom
with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and
for ever. Amen.

Happy to see parishioner Rachel Roberts, AKA “The Flower Lady,” recognized for her good work!

It’s the last Friday of the month, which means it’s time to introduce you to another .

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Roberts who has lived in Leesburg her entire life. But it’s her green thumb and big heart that has put her in the spotlight.

For the last 11 years, Robert’s has snipped flowers from her private garden, which are then placed in vases, before they are placed at the end of her driveway. Next to it is a donation box for Loudoun Hunger Relief. Flowers are sold on a pay-what-you-can honor system. Customers can drop off cash, checks to Loudoun Hunger Relief, or pay via Venmo to .

“I came up with the idea and started collecting jars and vases, knowing what I hoped to do,” said Roberts, who has volunteered at Loudoun Hunger Relief for a number of years. “I had plenty of fresh flowers and beautiful gardens that I was happy to share with our community. On one given day, I put a card table at the end of my driveway with a bowl for donations, completely on the honor system. That weekend I raised $50, and the rest is history.

Roberts...A.KA. the "Flower Lady" shared that some seasons have brought in more donations than others. In fact, the season of Covid was her most productive season due to people avoiding stores.

In total, Roberts has raised over $167,000 Loudoun Hunger Relief, which has always been near and dear to her heart.

“It’s a wonderful feeling to know you are helping to put food on the tables of our food-insecure neighbors,” Roberts said. “I often say, ‘my gardens grow food through the flowers.’.

Fun fact: the 'Flower Lady' grows more than just flowers! Most of the pumpkins on her front porch were grown in her own backyard. At the end of the year, she will throw what's left into her side garden. The seeds produce new pumpkins and gourds each year.

Prayer for All Saints' Day.
Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
