A good article on important principles for the PCA. Written by my friend, Richard Harris, of Christ PCA in Houston, TX.

In a healthy and faithful PCA, biblical fidelity and confessional integrity will be held in tandem. All our pastors and elders subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith, the Larger Catechism, and the Shorter Catechism.

A good way to start this most holy of days.

Well, soon it will be Easter. That wonderful time of the year when we remember (and celebrate) the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. But, not all will be celebrating. There are many that find Easter to be a senseless holiday—apart from, perhaps, the joys of Sunday brunch or chocolate eggs. Afte...

Iris Jeannette Dillard (4-27-30 to 3-11-24)

Dear Potomac Hills family,
It is with great sorrow that I have to tell you that we have lost a beloved member of our church family. Iris Jeannette Dillard went home to be with her beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ -- passing away in her sleep last night. Iris would have celebrated her 94th birthday on April 27th.

Iris was not only Mom to Phoebe and Kay, Grandmom to Erin, Emily, Elisha, and Sophie, and Great-Grandmother to Levi, Flora, and Eden, but a dear friend to many of us and she will be greatly missed, but the Good News of the Gospel is that Jesus promises to reunite us someday, joining with her at the wedding feast of the Lamb. For now, her faith has become sight, and she joins her beloved husband, Fielding, before the throne of our Lord and
Savior.

Tentatively, we will have an Open House at the Rist's (date to be determined) for all her local friends and family to bring condolences and share memories. At a later date (probably late June), we will have a more formal Memorial Service. We'll let you know as soon as the details are finalized. She will be interred at her family plot in Georgia.

We are saddened by this news, and I know all of you will be praying for her family and
friends as they cope with this loss. We do rejoice at her incredible record of faith, hope, and love, and the legacy she leaves in the hearts and minds of her family and friends.

Iris would often give me a loud amen during Sunday sermons (that's how I knew the sermons were okay); it's hard to believe that I have gotten my last amen from her. Iris, we will miss that mischievous smile and knowing nod, but we trust in the good name of Jesus that we will see it again ... and I look forward to that next amen.

In the Powerful Name of Christ,

The Reverend Dr. David V. Silvernail, Jr.
Senior Pastor

On this Twelfth Day of Christmas, we wish Joyful Epiphany, January 6, to friends worldwide. Tonight is “Twelfth Night.” Christmas decorations are removed. Christians prepare to celebrate the coming of the Persian Magi, God revealed in Jesus Christ to all nations.

This year, we especially pray for God’s peace on Iran, from which the Zoroastrian Magi journeyed (“magi” first appears in inscriptions from Darius the Great, 550-486 BC).

As foretold by the prophet: “The time is coming to gather all nations and tongues … they shall come and shall see my glory, and I will set a sign among them.” (Isaiah 66:18-19)

To date (6 BC) and to identify the celestial phenomena that may have drawn Zoroastrian astrologers' attention to western night skies, I recommend this fascinating book: *The Great Christ Comet: Revealing the True Star of Bethlehem,* by Colin R. Nicholl.

My top four book recommendations for next year’s reading list . . .

1. The Gospel of Matthew

2. The Gospel of Mark

3. The Gospel of Luke

4. The Gospel of John

If you’ll be following along with our 2024 sermon series, “Walking with Jesus: A Year with the the Savior”, then I would start with Luke.

A great follow up to today’s sermon. I love this picture of Anna meeting the baby Jesus. May we have that same joy.

“There was also a prophetess, Anna, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was advanced in years, having lived seven years with her husband after her marriage, and then as a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple, but worshiped night and day with fasting and prayer. And coming forward at that very time, she gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all who were awaiting the redemption of Jerusalem. “

A benediction and blessing for this New Year:

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. May the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace in Christ Jesus.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. As you step into the new year, may your heart be filled with new expectations, new dreams, and new joys.

May the Lord guide your steps, guard your hearts, and grant you wisdom for the days ahead. May His love be your shelter and His Word be your light. In times of uncertainty, may His promises be your assurance and His presence your comfort.

As you journey through each day, may you be strengthened by His Spirit, enveloped in His peace, and inspired by His love. May you find courage to face new challenges, grace to embrace new opportunities, and faith to trust in His unfailing providence.

May the new year bring you closer to the heart of God, deepening your reliance on His grace and expanding your capacity for compassion and kindness. May your life be a reflection of His goodness, and may your actions bear witness to His love.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, go forth in peace and joy, ready to greet the new year with hope and confidence. Amen.
