Wishing all my family at Holiday Mission and blessed and joyous Christmas.
We will be finishing up or series of Advent messages on the songs of Christmas with “Angles: Song of Peace” found in Luke 2:8-20. We have seen Zechariah’s “Song of Faith”, Mary’s “Song of Trust” and Simeon’s Song of Hope”. These all point to the promise of Christmas through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ of peace.
Sunday evening will look at another Christmas hymn. This one will be new to most but I love the story behind it.
O little town of Bethlehem
How still we see thee lie
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
The silent stars go by
Yet in thy dark streets shineth
The everlasting Light
The hopes and fears of all the years
Are met in thee tonight.
The celebration of our Savior's birth is a time to reflect on the person of Jesus—who He was, why He was sent to Earth, and what His life and death means for mankind. The virgin birth of our Redeemer was, and is, the fulfillment of God's promise to reconcile humanity to Himself. It is a time to be thankful for God's faithfulness and love for us.
Imagine waiting for generations for God to fulfill His promise of sending a King. From the moment that sin had fractured creation, God's people had been promised a Redeemer. And now, the time had come for the hopes and fears of all those years to be met in Christ.
He was the One who would crush the head of the serpent; He was the shoot from the stem of Jesse; He was the One named Immanuel.

God's people had been waiting for Jesus to come, and those who were given the wonderful news were not those who sat on thrones, or had wealth and status; no, those He favored were the outcasts—the unaccepted, the imperfect, the shepherds.
The angel's announcement was for them: "For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior," (Luke 2:11) and the announcement is for us. This is the good news of Christmas. This is the good news of great joy for the outcasts living on the fringes. This is the good news of great joy for us, exactly where we are.
The baby in the manger is the fulfillment of every promise of God (2 Cor. 1:20). Christ fulfilled God's promise for Adam and Eve, for Abram, for the Israelites, for Mary and Joseph...and for us today.
May God’s peace be with you all.
