Monday, January 20th is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He believed strongly in serving others.

“Everybody can be great because anybody can serve. … You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love,” Martin Luther King Jr.

Today, January 16, 2025, is National Religious Freedom Day in the United States. Michael Fielding, the Religious Freedom Specialist from the Coordinating Communication Council emailed municipalities in the Greater KC area. He asked them to issue a local proclamation on religious freedom in honor of this day because the benefits of religious freedom can most easily be seen in the lives of people who live their religious beliefs by helping to make their communities stronger, serving their neighbors, and being good citizens.
Andrew Felker, who previously served on the Lee's Summit city council, worked with Steve Blake, Government Relations Specialist, Sonja Kofoed from the KC Stake Communication Council and Mayor Baird, and the Lee’s Summit Ministerial Alliance to see if they could help make this happen in Lee's Summit. Attending the city council meeting from our stake on Jan 14, (when the proclamation was read) were President and Sister Ward, Brother Blake, the Felker family, the Kofoeds, and the Glenns. Sister Kofeod and Brother Glenn both serve on the Lee's Summit Ministerial Alliance. Other faith leaders were also in attendance, and mingled at a reception with cookies in the atrium of city hall after the council meeting.
Andrew Felker said, “It was a great event in Lee’s Summit.”
