Tomorrow, we will look at the account of Simon the magician from Acts 8:9-25. This man had enormous popularity in Samaria, but when the gospel is preached there, he realized that it was something greater than he was. However, instead of humbling himself to receive the gospel, he only wants to profit from it. Sadly, even though he is reproved for his misunderstanding and greed, he fails to make a full repentance from his sin. This passage serves as a warning to us, but also an encouragement that the gospel is a special blessing because it is God’s free gift!

In our worship service tomorrow, we will be installing Rev. Billy Hastings as our Associate Pastor. There will be a reception in his honor after our morning worship. Please join us for worship as we rejoice in God’s goodness to us in Christ and to our congregation specifically, in His provision for us through Billy’s ministry.

Tomorrow, we will look at the final sermon covering the life and ministry of Stephen. We have seen his ministry; and last week we looked at his message. Tomorrow, we will consider his martyrdom. His message boldly condemned his accusers, rightly calling them “stiff-necked” and “uncircumcised in heart and ears”, and ones who, “always resist the Holy Spirit!” These stinging words enraged his hearers and they killed Stephen for it, making him the first Christian martyr. The contrast between the rage of the Sanhedrin and the peace of Stephen in his dying moments could not be clearer. In the midst of stones being cast at him, Christ was with Stephen, and Christ stood to receive this faithful saint. May we be emboldened to keep our eyes fixed on Christ and speak the truth, as Stephen did.

Tomorrow, in Acts 7, we will consider Stephen’s stirring speech before the Sanhedrin. In it, he faithfully honors the God of glory, while demonstrating that the Jewish leaders who were persecuting the church were as stiff-necked as their fathers who had persecuted and killed the prophets. His speech in Acts 7:1-53 reminds us of God’s covenant promises, teaches us boldness, and serves as a warning to all who would reject Christ.
