🇺🇸 America’s 250th Birthday Bash: What to Expect on Saturday, June 13! 🔴⚪🔵

The City of Valor is going all out to celebrate America’s semiquincentennial, and we want you to have the ultimate guide to the festivities in downtown Leeds! This historic day is a true community collaboration, and there is something for the entire family.

Here is your official breakdown of the day:
• 🎉 The Kids Patriotic Parade: We are kicking things off with maximum energy! Kids, grab your bikes, scooters, wagons, and your best red, white, and blue gear. The parade will start at the Leeds Chamber of Commerce Office and march down the Parkway, wrapping up at the beautiful new mural on the Library wall. Click here to sign up for the parade: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeXaBfWenmbNS3NHts9SsOBX9rB0LgADHrs5E42FdURVH9_mA/viewform

• 🎖️ The Commemorative Program: Immediately following the parade, we will host a special ceremony that celebrates America and ties our nation's history right back to the roots of Leeds. During this program, we will officially dedicate our breathtaking new mural honoring Leeds’ three Medal of Honor recipients and pause to honor all veterans in attendance.

• 🎶 Spectacular Performances: Your favorite patriotic tunes will bring the downtown air to life! Enjoy special performances by The Pride of the Greenwave Marching Band, the First Baptist Leeds Handbell Choir, and the Leeds Community Chorus.

• 🍔 The "Party in the USA" After-Party: Once the program concludes, it’s time to celebrate! We are throwing a massive birthday bash for America complete with music, food trucks, bouncy houses for the kids, and so much more.

Make plans to spend your Saturday downtown celebrating history, heritage, and community! 🦅✨

This event is proudly brought to you by: City of Leeds, Alabama, Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce, Leeds Main Street, Leeds Historical Society, Leeds Arts Council, Leeds City Schools, and the Leeds Jane Culbreth Library.

What a wonderful example of community partnership and giving back! ❤️

Representatives from C & C Motor Company and Dixie Vintage Automobile Club recently presented donations totaling $6,811 from the Leeds Creek Bank Festival to two outstanding local organizations — Backpack Buddies and Leeds Outreach. The funds were split evenly between the two groups to help support their important work serving families and individuals in need throughout our community.

The Leeds Area Chamber of Commerce extends sincere appreciation to Chris and Christy McCombs for 10 years of dedicated leadership in coordinating the Creek Bank Festival Car Show. Their hard work and heart for the community have helped make the event a meaningful tradition that continues to make a difference.

We are also excited to welcome Dixie Vintage as the new coordinators of the car show moving forward and look forward to seeing this popular Creek Bank Festival tradition continue to grow!

Congratulations to Carla Meloni of Leeds Primary School on being named the 2026 Leeds Area Chamber Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Meloni, an inclusion kindergarten teacher, was recognized during Thursday’s Leeds Area Chamber luncheon for her outstanding dedication to students and families and for the compassionate, encouraging environment she creates in her classroom each day.

During the presentation, Leeds City Schools Superintendent John Moore and Leeds Primary School Principal Steven Porter praised Mrs. Meloni’s passion for teaching, her commitment to inclusion, and the lasting impact she has on both her students and fellow educators. Mary Beth Lochridge led a Q&A with Mrs. Meloni to help us get to know her better.

Mrs. Meloni received a $500 award sponsored by Heidelberg Materials in recognition of this well-deserved honor.

Thank you, Mrs. Meloni, for the difference you make every day in the lives of Leeds students!

Thursday’s Leeds Area Chamber luncheon featured an informative and inspiring update from John Moore, Superintendent of Leeds City Schools.

Mr. Moore shared highlights from across the school system, including more than $75M in facility investments since 2009, ongoing renovations and athletic facility upgrades, improved graduation rates, literacy initiatives, career tech success stories, and the continued focus on student achievement and attendance.

He also reflected on the challenges following last summer’s lightning strike and fire damage at Leeds Primary School and praised the dedication of teachers, staff and administrators who helped students continue to thrive during a difficult year.

One of the most special moments of the luncheon was the recognition of Carla Meloni as the 2026 Leeds Area Chamber Teacher of the Year. (See separate post.)

Thank you to Mr. Moore for sharing today’s update and for the incredible work being done across Leeds City Schools to serve students and families in our community! The Chamber extends its sincere appreciation to Representative Susan DuBose and State Senator Dan Roberts for sponsoring the luncheon. Additional thanks go to student diplomats Savannah Rhodes and Steicy Jimenez for their assistance, to the ladies of Leeds First Methodist Church for serving the meal, and to the church for hosting the event.
