The history of our beautiful Baptismal Font!

The Church of the Holy Comforter’s baptismal font is from the original, small cottage church on Chickamaw Road in LeCompte. Our font is, like many Episcopal Churches, found at the entrance to the Nave, a symbol that all enter the Christian faith by baptism, and are sealed and marked as Christ’s own forever. Our Church Historian, Dorothy Carnal, is researching our font’s maker and the family who donated it to Holy Comforter. UPDATE: from Dorothy Carnal: the beautiful font was a gift from Eloise Polk. The Polks were one of the original five members of The Church of the Holy Comforter, LeCompte, La , Around 1880. The Polk family also gave the Bishop’s Chair, Credence, Stoles, Prayer Desk Lectern, our beautiful Altar and Hymnal Board. How blessed we have all been by the Polk Family’s generosity, love, and participation. ❤️❤️❤️

Christian Symbolism in stained glass is an ancient tradition, going back to the time when many people could not read the written word, but had been taught the meaning of symbols. This photo of an eagle resting on a book symbolizes Divine Protection, Spiritual Renewal and most notably, is the symbol of St. John, the Evangelist, credited as the author of the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation in the Bible.

This Sunday, May 24,2026 is the Day of Pentecost. Traditionally, we all wear red on Pentecost. Red symbolizes the “tongues of fire” that rested on the heads of the Apostles as they received the Holy Spirit. See you Sunday, dressed in red!!

Happy Mother’s Day, to all the Mothers! Those who, adopt, step mothers, those with children in heaven, and those who are in heaven, those who have no children but love children like they were their own! This beautiful window with the Easter Lily is one of many symbols for Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ, given in memory of Jennie Hardy. Lilies represent the hope, purity and innocence of Mary. As much as we love our Mothers, think of how much Jesus loves his.
