This past Sunday, we wrapped up our round of our Journeys in John sermon series with John 10:22-42.

We learned that Jesus is one with the Father. This means more than being one in mission. Jesus meant He is one with the Father in their shared essential Being! Jesus is the Godman who came to earth to save us from sin and give us eternal life! And as Jesus prayed for us in John 17, He came to make us (including application to us as Grace Life members) one, even as the Father and Son are one (John 17:20-23)!

No matter the challenges we face together, Christ is faithful to grant us the gift of endurance.

Just as Jesus’ death on the cross secured full atonement for every sin of the sheep He came to save, there’s another beautiful certainty we can rest in: all who hear the voice of the Good Shepherd will believe in Him and be saved when they hear the gospel.

This is not wishful thinking - it’s a promise rooted in His finished work.

Justification by faith alone excludes works of the law, including the command to love. Christ alone obeyed the law on behalf of all who trust in Him to save them from eternal judgment.

Justification through faith alone means just that--it's through faith alone. And God's declaration of the believer as righteous means, "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." (Romans 8:1)

God's law says "do this and live." God's gospel says "done"--completely done, even as Jesus declared from the cross, "It is finished." God's law for the Christian is not a manual for how to earn salvation but is his guide for walking in obedience out gratitude to God for saving him by grace alone.
