The conscience to repent..evidence of the Holy Ghost

Conscience...The faculty, power, or inward principle which decides as to the character of one's own actions. *How would you define your character? In matters of the bible, a person's attributes, those actions that can be attributed to his or her character, are determined to be godly or ungodly. Pretty simple. The contrast manifested by words such as light or dark, truth or lie, for me or against me, make decisions critical in determining conscientiousness. A battle for the mind exists today just as it has existed for centuries. As the mind goes, so goes the spirit of that man according to scripture.

What was the purpose of Christ's birth, death, and ressurection? The answer you give establishes the condition of your conscience. However,do you truly understand, and are you able to defend your answer? If not, why not? There has been a gift given to all who have submitted to the will of God, thru a confession of faith, that enables each and everyone to rely and trust in the covenant promises of the Almighty. Do you have this gift? Are you able to defend your faith? Let's take a critical look at your belief system and determine if more is needed to affirm a blood bought conscience.

Prayer: Heavenly Father. Remove all obstructions and hinderances to the hearing of Your Word today. Fill our minds with the truth and power of your will for our lives. It is in Jesus that all things are possible to them that believe. Remove all doubt and fear, that we may see the Son of Glory as He daily tries to reveal Himself to us. In Jesus name we pray.

Scripture: Luke 16:22-26..."And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence."

Message

The Bible is full of people who received second chances, and even third and fourth chances: Peter, Jonah, Samson, David, and others to name a few. All are trophies of God’s grace. Forgiveness however, is not the same thing as reconciliation. Many people struggle to find the balance between showing mercy and enabling a harmful person to continue harming. Our Lord encourages us to have a loving and forgiving heart, but one that also practices wise guardianship over our lives. So what is the intent of forgiveness?

In order to fully comprehend the intent of a Christian's duty to forgive we must look strongly at two other formidable words... *wisdom and reconciliation. WISDOM: Ability to judge correctly and to follow the best course of action, based on knowledge and understanding. RECONCILIATION: The process by which a dispute may be settled. When reconciliation is secured, harmony between opposites is achieved. Does the act of blindly forgiving prevent the trespass from ocurring again? I believe each of us may be able to say emphatically no! So what is a child of God to do?

True forgiveness is a function of the heart and and given to the one who offends, thus removing any barriers that unforgiveness brings. The blood of Christ offers this kind of forgiveness. However, the following truth applies to both the physical and the spiritual. When someone continues to unrepentantly violate another person’s boundaries, a wise person learns to set firmer boundaries. God does the same.

How does God establish firmer boundaries? The answer: by the call to repent, to turn away from sin. Earlier it was asked, what was the purpose of Christ's birth, death, and ressurection? In our Lord's own words we read..."I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." Luke 5:32. And what is sin? As defined by scripture, it is lawlessness or transgression of God's will, either by omitting to do what God's law requires or by doing what it forbids. *The transgression may occur in thought, word, or deed. Jesus came to reconcile us to the Creator thru repentance...giving us both knowledge and wisdom of what defiles His will. Jesus came to save us from the "second death; an eternal spiritual death."

Over the centuries, man continues to manipulate the wisdom of God's word and thus bring to bear on our consciences platitudes of no worth in fulfilling the will of the "I AM" of scripture. There is a place mentioned many times in both the new and the old testaments. It is called Gehenna or hell. How serious was Jesus about the existence of this domain of infinite anguish. Matt 5:29..." if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell." Serious warning ! So the word hell (Gehenna) as a place of punishment is used in the New Testament by *Him who is the essence of infinite love. This word (Gehenna) is used 12 times in the New Testament, and each time it is translated "hell." *Jesus was a hell fire preacher! It is a place; "Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." Mark 9:44

Why is this so important to understand? Many pulpits today preach a message contrary to the written word. The "isms" being brought forward flat out deny the existence and penalty of a place called hell in one form or another. The most prominent teaching today is "annihilationism." There is no place of eternal torment. Those who die in their sin without the covering of sacrificial blood are simply extinguished...their soul no longer exists. If this be so, then where is the incentive in this life to do the bidding of our righteous Judge and Creator? This is not scriptually correct and many will find out too late the error of this thinking. "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness." Rom 1:18 And what is that truth...there is a hell, Jesus says so! Matt 10:28..."fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

Another problem within the pulpit is "universalism." This would be the teaching that all go to heaven, eventually. How so in contrast to the following?..."Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Cor 6:9-10. Be not deceived is the warning here.

And finally we come to one that is most controversial..."inclusivism." This is a teaching that those who have never heard the word of God will not be punished. However this teaching flies in the face of the following. Rom 1:20..."For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse." Most claims of ignorance fall flat as Romans 1:20 says there is no excuse for not believing in God’s existence. Micah 6:8 also counters the claims of ignorance: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” As such it would be noteworthy to understand, if ignorance does not excuse sin, then feigned ignorance is even worse.

I do believe that Jesus is righteous and just. Therefore I believe in levels of punishment according to His will. We find a hint of this in Luke 12:47-48..." That servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes." Even so, it must be understood...hell is not heaven!

If you are following this message in agreement to its' content and context, then I would say that you are either being prompted by the spirit of truth to believe or that you are in possession of the Holy Ghost and truly understand the wisdom being spoken. In one case you are being drawn to the cross, while in the other you have received the benefit of our Lord's sacrifice. The Holy Ghost is the purveyor of truth; sent by Jesus to all who have confessed in His name and sacrifice. He is the helper, the teacher, and the comforter of John 14:16. In addition...."the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26

And what has Jesus declared to be the truth? Matt 7:15-16..."Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits." And what are the fruits of false prophets? "Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it."John 8:43-44

Perhaps many who hear this message will say...what makes you so certain your understanding of scripture is correct? My answer is simple. There can only be one truth as guided by the Spirit of Truth...the Holy Ghost. If you claim this precious gift as well, then one of us has to be wrong. It is then I would challenge you to do the following. "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15 The word of God is always to be the standard for rebuke and reproof. I am willing as, I have always been, to allow the Holy Ghost to be my judge.

In the beginning of this message we mentioned names of a few who received a second chance. Our text scripture revealed the name of one who did not. He begged for aid, but it did not come for "there is a great gulf fixed." He was concerned for the spiritual condition of his five brothers "lest they also come into this place of torment." It becomes most obvious as the parable goes on, his concerns and the methods he proposed to save were too late and unmerited. I love the final word in this most important parable from Jesus. In rebuttle to the rich man's suggestions, Jesus declares..."If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." Luke 16:31. How critical does this make the hearing of God's truth? The aid of the Spirit is paramount in this endeavor.

The Lord may return at any moment. I do not willingly compromise the truth of scripture, nor should any disciple of Christ. The power of God to save is in the unified word spoken and that which is approved by the Holy Spirit. That word is backed by heaven and the power of a holy and omniscient sovereign. If you wish to be of the Spirit, do not delay in coming to the foot of the cross. Be washed in the blood of the lamb and know that you belong to Him that saves. The conscience to repent comes only from the presence of the Holy Ghost. I pray this will be so in your life as well.

Prayer: Father. Deception is menacingly prevalent in the world today; a world ruled by the father of lies. Many are being led to the gates of hell thinking safe thoughts. I beg you, in the name of Jesus, to open the eyes of those seeking the benefits of self versus the sacrifices of serving the church, Your bride. Our eternal hope is in You Lord, not in the riches of this world. Guide those of the Spirit in better ways of service. In Jesus name...Amen.

Self righteousness and its' destructive power.

As a pastor I am confronted by this concern every waking moment. There are many in the Christian community that, (for the sake of disingenuous love) promote a Gosple that demeans the righteousness that God requires and substitutes a righteousness that man creates. This is done so man is able to feel comfortable in the church, not convicted. This form of righteousness achieves nothing toward the purpose of the church nor the sacrifice of Christ. It is man made, not God breathed.

Time is growing short for those who continue to be steeped in this deception and wish to be justified in the eyes of God. No works of any kind can get you there. Of course if you do ot believe in the presence of an all powerful Sovereign, this warning will fall on deaf ears. That is certainly not the wish of the Almighty, nor my wish as His servant in the Gospels. The righteousness of God remains hidden to many and sadly to many denominations who support and teach there is no need to worry. They preach a word contrary to the truth of scripture. Bluntly stated, God's love is defintely unconditional for all of His creation. However, His love is not unconditional when salvation is the topic. How do I know this? Matt 7:21..."Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven."

And what is that will? It is to accept the sacrifice of His Son as the final payent for "sin" debt. Usually the question that now enters the conversation is "what sin debt?" Unfortunately many pulpits do not follow up on answering this question. For the sake of brevity I will say each and every human being living now or who ever lived carried this debt to the grave unless they were covered and redeemed. Covered by what? To a true follower of Christ the answer is now and will allways be the sacrificial blood of Christ. You are never justifed by works of any kind, only faith in what Jesus acheived for you on the cross.

In my years of experience in ministry, the biggest stumbling block to understanding the requirements of total justification in the Father's eyes is pride and refusal to admit sin has and is a dominant feature of human existence; been that way since before the church was born. Lets go back to the environment that Jesus was confronted with before He was crucified.

Jesus was harassed many times by the religious leaders of His day. To Jesus there was no secret as to why this problem existed, and that stigma remains to this very day. Of course most churches will talk about the power and the need for control that the Sanhedrin commanded and emphasize that Jesus represented a threat to that control; absolutely true! But what was the real threat of Christ's preaching? Jesus was confronted daily with attitudes and beliefs biased in favor of a socially elitist class of people. The burden and traditions heaped upon those attempting to find grace and peace thru obedience to Judaism was stifling and abusive. Jesus came to rectify this problem and presented a "much better covenant" for His people.

So what was the real problem? The religious leaders of the day did not deny the miracles of Jesus. They were witnesses themselves. They could live with the fact He could walk on water, and feed thousands of people. What hey could not live with was being called sinners! They would not acknowledge themselves as poor, blind, and prisoners of their own self righteousness. They were too smugly righteous. So when Jesus came preaching repentence, and saying they were sinners, wretched,blind, poor, and lost under the bo***ge of their own iniquity--they could not and would not tolerate that! As such, it was our Lord's message that all are sinners in need of grace that got Him crucified. So from my heart to yours, if you think your opinion of yourself is enough to get you into the Kingdom of God...think again! John 14:6..." I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." To misunderstand the righteousness God requires will be a fatal mistake to the eternal destiny He wishes you to have. WARNING! What I am about to say will most likely upset many claiming the title of Christian. What you have been allowed to believe or taught to believe will be challenged. I have been called to be a pastor/teacher and of this date I am more responsible now than when I first began in fulfilling this call to serve. I serve by clarifying what the Lord Jesus requires from a true born again soul. It is here tempers usually flare.

There are many who claim the exclusive title of "Christian" yet fail in their obligations to be that person chosen of God. It seems this get worse with each and every day. The bible declares this to be so as we approach the end of the age of grace..."the church age". There is only one thing to look forward to if you are outside of His grace. It's not good!

I made a decision long ago to choose a different path. Part of that decision was to leave behind/forget those things I did that violated a God given conscience. The presence of the indwelling Spirit has provided that shield and I look forward to His promised return. Are you able to do the same? If not, I would encourage you to seek the peace that only Christ can give. Believe me you are going to need His presence with the what is coming soon!

My reason for bringing this message of encouragement; bad things are about to destroy your faith if it is not grounded in Christ. I have heard and seen things that tell me the rapture of His church is very near and there are many who are going to miss this opportunity to escape the "wrath of God." This includes those who are Christian in name only. What do I meanby this?

All those who took part in the march against a King. Do you not understand the Lord Jesus is the "King of Kings and Lord of Lords". Think about it! If Jesus were to come back today and He knows you offered only lip service in this age, do you really think you are going to avoid the tradgedies ahead? If so, you have deceived yourself. How is it possible one can approve of and remain in a party that condones the sacrifice of a baby as a result of a poor choice. You will not find one Word of scripture that condones murder!

Deception is rampant and it will influence those unable to discern the truth. Jesus says," I am the way, the truth, and the life." Do you understand the power of this proclamation? Or are you discarding the influence of the Holy Ghost to satsify the flesh? Perilous times are here and they are going to get worse, much worse! The closer you move toward the cross, the greater the hope in Christ will allow you to take refuge in His promises. If this message has convicted you of something you need to shed or something you need to do, do not hesitate. Understand, there IS no promise of a tomorrow in this life. Take heed

Our world is full of confusion and deceit. Chaos abounds in places where a few years ago it was believed to never be possible. This condition did not happen over night. The Word of God has warned students of the bible of such a time to come...it is here now. Matthew 24 is by far the most concise description of the expected period of turmoil soon to encompasse the earth. " For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows." Matt 24:7-8

If what we are experiencing now is just the beginning of sorrows, how bad can things get? In our Lord's own words..." For then (a future prohesied time) shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be." Matt 24:21 There has been many times people have felt the crushing influence of what they believed to be the "end of days." Yet the Lord says do not be deceived. Much worse is to come upon and unbelieving and unsuspecting world.

The substance and particular afflictions of this coming calamity is for another message. For now I will address those claiming to be followers of Christ yet most likely will not have the spiritual stamina to overcome what our Sovereign Lord has declared to be the future.

Prayer: Heavenly Father. I come to you in the name of Jesus. I pray that your Spirit is with us and that all present will be able to hear and discern the truth. Build up our faith that we may serve Your Son and His church. Help us to stand firm when trials come our way. May it be by Your will others will see the witness and seek Your gift of grace and mercy. In Jesus name I ask it. Amen.

Scripture: Luke 21:34-36...Take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with (excessive indulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man."

Message

Between the introduction to this message and the scripture just quoted, there should be no doubt the Lord of our salvation desires we be made ready for the trial to come upon the whole earth. Do you disagree? If so, how?

Jesus says that human conduct in the days ahead will be a "snare" to all those that dwell on the face of the earth at that time. I believe the snare of unbelief is alive and well today. The trial Jesus spoke of is sure to come. Those caught off guard will suffer the consequences of their rebellion. Question: Are all living today doomed to such peril? Without repentance I say yes! However, there is a proposition Jesus gives to avoid this coming dilemma. The answer He gives... "Watch therefore that ye may be counted worthy to escape all these things." Question: How does one watch if a person does not know what to be watching for? "Study (the word of God)to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed (thru ignorance), rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15.

Within the scriptures you will find what Jesus actually said about the times to come and his concerns for those He loves and came to deliver? For example...Take heed that you be not overpowered by temptations, nor betrayed by your own corruptions. Remember, God deals with heart issues and man's heart has a tendency to flirt with sin according to Genesis 6:5. With regard to what has just been stated, it must be understood, we cannot be safe unless we acknowledge the true source of our security. This fact should concern all professing Christians at all times, but especially at times the Lord designates to be extremely dangerous. Do you believe we are living in dangerous times? Do you believe the warnings from Jesus about far worse times ahead? I do, and I am going to count on the grace of God to see me through. I have a scriptural reason to believe this way.

Do you understand the immense love God has for His chosen? Psalm 72:14 declares "our lives are precious to Him." If this be so while we are living, would it not be true as well concerning the end of our lives? God does not regard the death of one of His beloved children lightly. That is why He sent Jesus to remedy a bad situation. I have long heard the complaint about God being slack in confirming promises. Yet if you were on His mind, wouldn't you appreciate His loving grace and patience in bringing you to the knowledge of life eternal? God is sovereign and in that sovereignty He acts according to His will.

Each and every one of us has an appointed time with death. However, if it is not our appointed time to die, do you know the Lord will hasten to protect us? From scripture we read “Our God is a God who saves! The Sovereign LORD rescues us from death." Psalm 68:20 (NLT). The moment and circumstances of both our living and our death will not take God by surprise. Scripture declares, "You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed." Ps 139:16 (NLT) The Lord knows how, when, and where we will die. He cares deeply about every circumstance we face, and particularly the crucial moments of our approaching death.

God watches fiercely over His servants. “‘No weapon forged against you will prevail, and you will refute (prove wrong) every tongue that accuses you. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and this is their vindication from me, thus saith the LORD.”Isaiah 54:17 And again from scripture God affirms, “Anyone who harms you harms my most precious possession” Zechariah 2:8, NLT. Are you following the trend being manifested? If God has called you to serve, and you are obedient to that call, we can trust as Jesus did that no one will lay a hand on us until our time has come. Twice Jesus was found teaching in the temple in contempt of the ruling religious leaders. Both times they tried to arrest Him but failed. John 7:30..." they sought to take him: but no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come." And again, John 8:20..." These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come." The hour spoken of here was the appointed time for His sacrificial death.

So where am I going with this? I want you to understand, the only thing we can absolutely know about God is what He showed us thru His Son's ministry. All the way thru the bible we read stories about the life and death of His servants. While they were living they pursued the will of the Father and the Lord kept them. The death of a loved one is hard to explain; much harder if the one involved had the appearance of being righteous in the eyes of man. It is then the sovereignty and rational of God will be questioned. I have faced this inquiry many times. My patent answer comes from Romans 8:28..."all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." God is omniscient and omnipresent. What mortal can know His way? What I do know is His decisions serve good and not evil.

With that bing said, when we undergo life-threatening experiences, we can know that “the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil” 1 Peter 3:12. We can trust that God will come to our defense. " For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him." 2 Chron 16:9. You can believe whole heartedly our lives and our deaths are matters of deep concern for God.

Let's tie all this together with wisdom. The bible says there is no promise of a tomorrow in human life. Since we do not know the number of our days, should not all Christians live each day for God? According to scripture..."we ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that." James 4:15. If we truly understand that God is in total control of our lives, we should make wise decisions about how we live and how we take care of ourselves. And, ultimately, we trust God’s sovereignty in all things, including our time of death.

Let us now go back to our text scripture. By now we should all agree that Jesus came to warn us about the wrath to come. His perfect sacrifice opened the door for absolute jusification in the eyes of the Father. Thru Christ's witness it is hoped that all who are called of God will see the future with scriptural eyes and believe. Unfortunatley pride and errant messages coming from many of today's pulpits will not support the sincere warning emanating from the lips of our Savior. Why is this deception so important to Jesus? Matt 24:25..."Behold, I have told you before." As such there is now no excuse!

The future of the true church is to avoid the wrath to come. Rev 3:10..."
Because thou (true church) hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." The trial spoken of is the tribulation period. Bad news for any left behind! Seek the Lord while He may be found. Avoid the wrath the Father has prepared for those who remain in unbelief. Should'nt this be the heart of all born again saints. I believe so. Be the witness you need to be when the opportunity presents itself.In doing so, you have been obedient. I am sure your act of submission will put a smile on our Lord's face. May it always be so.

Prayer: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Amen.

There is a powerful message to be garnered from Psalm 82..." God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked?"

God , the supreme authority, stands in the middle of the mighty and he judges (along with) those assigned to be judges. Magistracy is a divine institution; and magistrates (judges) are God's delegates. Those that argue against the spiritual foundations of this nation as being Christian in function give no credence to history. From the Mayflower Pact to the formation of our Constitution, the wisdom and power of God to lead and protect has been a mainstay in the life of America. In just 250 years of existence, our leaders in congress and those who judge have forfeit the principles of God's justice in favor of man's wisdom. The chaos you see taking place today is the result of our presumptuous ignorance. You might say ignorance of what. The answer...when the wisdom of man takes control over something he does not own and assumes the authority to do as he pleases in spite of the One who does, bad things happen!

God is in control and He demands obedience to His righteous ways. Do you not see disobedience to God's will as a guarantee to failure? The desire of the natural man (those with no will to obey) are in direct conflict with the ways of peace. Obedience to the Law of God is the sure way for lasting peace. It is more than obvious that mankind is completely unable to maintain the peace God would have in place. It is just as obvious the covetous nature of human beings will never allow for such bliss to ever exist. Do I have to give you any examples? As such our Constitution allows for the formation of laws consistent with the laws of God in the hope that PENALTY and compliance to justice will prevail. Do you see that happening today?

Looking further into Psalm 82 we read..." Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked." Ps 82:3-4 This can only happen in one of two ways. 1) God intervenes, or 2) People vote those who support evil out of office. God does in fact eventually intervene for the sake of His creation (read Revelation...not good!) but for now it is up to the people. To put those wicked back in control will only exacerbate the chaos of today. Why? The will of the wicked does not change. The end result..." They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth (will continue) and are out of course." Ps 82:5.
