Today I will administer The Lord's supper at Church and as I reflect on Memorial Day I see many of the same qualities that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ possessed as He WILLFULLY went through and endured for our salvation. For our Freedom! John 8:36
Similarly, many of our American heroes that died serving our country, also went willingly.
Below are some of the points I will make regarding the sacrifice of the Lord which involved COURAGE.
You might say to yourself, "but He was God, it was easy for Him".
Not so, Jesus was fully God and yet fully man.
He felt all of our human sorrows, and needed to endure the same way we did.
He was obedient, even to death on the cross.
Philippians 2:8 "And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross".
Today we will pray for the families of the fallen, and to our God for giving us this great Country to live in, while remembering that sacrifices were made in order for us to enjoy it and to continue to support and preserve it for future generations that their sacrifice may not be in vain.
Below is the short sermon I will give during communion.
Virtues + morals
Virtues would be considered high moral standards.
They are usually something everyone agrees with (most popular).
So, being a su***de bomber might be virtuous in the Islamic religion, but not universally.
Actually stopping that su***de bomber at the risk of your own life and the life of others would be considered much more virtuous than the bomber itself.
It would be displaying the virtue of courage.
What is courage? There are many ways to say it, but it’s basically, overcoming fear and moving by faith and then possessing the will and fortitude to continue despite the circumstances or repercussions.

Now keep in mind, Virtues or high moral standards, come from God who created us IN HIS IMAGE.
Doesn’t mean our looks, rather the characteristics and qualities we posses, although tainted by sin, reflect the perfection of God.
You don’t necessarily need to be a born again Christian to posses these high Virtues, since it is created within us by our Creator.
Being a Christian may be a motivation for being empowered by God for courage at the moment, but it is not required.
Being a Christian IS REQUIRED to enter into Heaven.
A courageous person that may have performed a courageous act, does not automatically get into Heaven.
We don’t get there by our good works.
Ephesians 2:8,9
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast".
I mention Courage and Loyalty as I think of Memorial day as well.
What is loyalty? Being faithful. Pledging allegiance.
For the joy set before Him…Hebrews 12:1-24
Sweat drops of blood… Luke 22:44
And yet STILL went through with it!!! That is COURAGE. That is HIGH MORAL STANDARDS.
That is OBEDIENCE. That is LOVE. See less
