There have been some questions about flags being placed on the graves of veterans in the Friends Cemetery for Memorial Day. Our understanding is that this has been taken care of by the LeGrand Fire Department, and possibly with help from the Boy Scout troops in the area in the past. The cemetery board has nothing to do with setting out the flags.
We recently were in contact with the LeGrand Fire Department and they may not be placing the individual flags in the future. They have been in charge of doing this at multiple cemeteries in the area and are down to only a few volunteers to get this done each year. This is unfortunate, but is understandable from our perspective.
In the future, the plan will be for the LeGrand Fire Department to purchase and install flags representing the branches of the military represented in he cemetery (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, National Guard, etc). These flags will be installed and displayed along the east fence of the property along highway 146.
