This Sunday, Don't miss another great week at TN! Simeone will be teaching on the Second half of Acts. 9. Worship is lead by Kyle Moody and the worship band , fun prizes, and more! I want to share something with you all from my devotions the other day. I was reading from iworship Devotional Bible, and the reading was from Acts 1-2.
The verse that was focused on was from Acts 1:14- "They all met together continually for prayer, along with Mary the mother of Jesus, several other women, and the brothers of Jesus."
The story in my devotions was about Jeremiah Lanphier, a businessman who recently appointed as a missionary to New York City. Being a missionary was new to him, so he was trying to figure out "how to do this new job." After praying about it, he decided to put up a flier advertising a prayer meeting every Wednesday at noon. The top of the flier read, "how often shall I pray?" September 23, 1857, was the first day of prayer meeting, and Mr. Lanphier waited patiently, after 15 min. passed, he was getting discouraged. Just when he was about to give up, at 12:30, he heard footsteps coming up the stairs. Six people entered the room.
The next week, 40 people showed up to pray! Soon, more people showed up to pray, so he decided to make the prayer meeting daily, (at noon) instead of weekly! "In six months, ten thousand business people were meeting for prayer in New York City!!! This revival spread to other cities in America." "According to a research by Edwin Orr, one million Americans were converted in 1858 and 1859 out of a nation population of 30 million!" - iworship devotional Bible
"That's the way it was with the early Christians after the ascension of Jesus. They spent their time praying together." -iworship devotional Bible.
Can you imagine what difference we can make in our own family, our church and our community if all the churches in our community gathered to pray? Oftentimes we think, that to have a successful prayer meeting, we have to have a lot of people show up. God shows up where you are, and His Spirit moves in the lives of His people.
