Equipping classes at Free City exist to help us apply the gospel to community, to discipleship, to mission, and to our lives. 📸 shoutout to those who just completed our first equipping class of the fall, the two-week SJT & LTG Training! 👏

Only a few days remain to sign up for our Fall 2025 Discover Free City class. This two-week class is designed for those interested in learning more about the behind the scenes of Free City Church and exploring membership.

The two-week Discover Free City class will provide you with information about church vision, mission, values, distinctive, philosophy, doctrine, etc. You’ll also have the chance to interact with our pastors, staff, and get to know others at a similar stage in the life of the church.

Discover meets in a pastor’s home and childcare is available. Week 1 is THIS Sunday at 6pm!

➕ EVANGELISM TRAINING + SHARE THE GOSPEL
October 3 and 17 from 6-8pm

Has your life been utterly changed by the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Do those around you–coworkers, neighbors, friends, acquaintances–know this about your life?

Most Christians want to share the Gospel, they just don’t feel equipped to do so.

Next Friday, we are offering a unique opportunity to grow in the ability and confidence to share the Gospel with people in your life. The goal of this 2-week training is to provide space to learn how to effectively share the Gospel and practice that very task.

The first week of the class is Friday, October 3 from 6-8pm at a staff member’s home.

Last Sunday during church, we prayed over and commissioned Dustin and Scout Stanley and Travis and Nicole Bosse as City Group Leaders of our newest City Group in Baldwin City. 🙌

The Stanley’s have been members at Free City since 2023, and you might recognize Dustin as a member of our Preaching Team. The Stanley’s moved to Baldwin at the beginning of the summer with the prayerful intent to plant a church in Baldwin called Horizon Church. 🌅 The hope is to open the doors for worship service in 2026.

We’re a few weeks away from our fall semester line of events!! 📆🌻

➕FIRST UP: Free City Church will host a two-week training for how to use the SJT Bible Reading Plan and the purpose and format for Life Transformation Groups. New *LTGs* will be encouraged through this two-week training. Dessert provided. 🍪

⏰: 6-7:30pm on September 14 and 21

‼️LOCATION CHANGE THIS SUNDAY‼️ - FIRST CHRISTIAN CHURCH - 11:15am service

Earlier this week, the fire suppression mainline burst at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School. In order to fix it they have torn up the parking lot, and no one is allowed to use the building until the fire marshal evaluates and passes it. It will not be evaluated or passed until next week.

As a result, we are NOT able to meet at Central for worship this Sunday.

First Christian Church (1000 Kentucky Street) has graciously offered their space for our regularly scheduled worship service. Please note that this Sunday, August 3, our worship gathering will be at First Christian Church with an adjusted start time of 11:15am.

➕PARKING: There is a parking lot located just south of the First Christian Church building, as well as a second lot one block further south. There is also street parking available. Please abide by street parking signs and allow additional time for parking and walking.

➕ENTRANCE: Everyone will enter on the south side of the building, the same side as the parking lot. Free City KIDS and their families should enter on the southeast entrance (facing the playground, on the right). All other attendees will enter the southwest entrance (facing the playground, on the left). Look for our greeters wearing Free City T-shirts!

➕KIDS: Kids will operate as normal with the exception of no 4th-5th grade class. 4th-5th graders will stay in worship service with their families.

On Thursday, August 7, from 6-8pm, we will have our third and final Free City KIDS & families Summer Nights - Pool Party! This event aims to provide fun and fellowship for the whole family. Kids of all ages and their parents are invited to come for food and a final summer night together at a member’s backyard pool.

Chick-fil-A chicken nuggets and drinks will be provided, please bring a side or dessert to share!

Welcome to Free City Staff + Stephen Hass + Director of Care Ministry 👏

Stephen joins Free City staff in a part-time role this month to pioneer a new position: Director of Care Ministry. Many of you already know Stephen, his wife Kayla, and their two kids, Peter and Anna. The Hass family has been part of Free City Church since August 2017. Over the years, Stephen has faithfully served in a variety of roles, including as a City Group Leader and City Group Leader Coach and as a member of the Worship Team and KIDS Team.

For the past eight years, Stephen and Kayla have been discipling students on KU’s campus through the Navigators, and Stephen has served as campus director for the last five years. During this time, he also pursued theological education at Midwestern Seminary and earned a Masters of Theological Studies with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling.

WHAT IS CARE MINISTRY?

Care Ministry is discipleship that comes alongside Christians who are walking through acute struggles to offer support, training, and help that aims to grow them into healthy, vibrant participants in the life of the church.

WHAT IS BIBLICAL COUNSELING?

Biblical Counseling offers personal, gospel-centered care to those dealing with sin and suffering. Like all discipleship, it relies on the power of the Holy Spirit and the sufficiency of God’s Word to bring lasting hope and transformation.

Our vision for Care Ministry and Biblical Counseling is to serve as intentional pathways of discipleship–integrated with Sunday Gatherings, City Groups and LTGs–to help our people grow in Christlikeness.

VBS DAY 3 + RECAP🔎

Kids learned that while we were still sinners, Jesus Christ died for us. We can be confident that GOD LOVES US. 🙌

We had so much fun this week!! We hope that you all can join us TONIGHT for a final closing rally with Red, Raven, the butterfly, the tiger & all our friends! Kids will perform songs & we’ll reveal how much was raised by the kids for !

📍Meet in the auditorium at Christ Community Church at 6:30pm — after the show we’ll have free treats & Chick-fil-A for purchase, plus inflatables! Bring a lawn chair or blanket!

DAY 2 + VBS RECAP🔎

Kids learned that God keeps the whole universe spinning, and He STILL cares about what’s happening to us!

Red & Raven got caught in a storm. ☔️ The church clap took over the auditorium. 👏 Lots of gummy worms were consumed. 🐛 Our incoming 5th-6th graders got to cool off with some slip n’ slide kickball. 💦 And the tiger was spotted on the loose. 🐯

Today at VBS, kids learned that God created EVERYthing and yet He still wants to spend time with us. We are important to God. God SEES us. 🔎

PS - we promise, no real crickets were used in the making of cricket snacks. 🦗
