Friends, this has certainly been an unprecedented time for our own community, and a devastating event for our family, friends, sisters, and brothers to our west. Although we usually gather for our Wednesday evening community suppers on the second Wednesday of each month, which we still plan to do next week, we could all use a little community and fellowship in our lives right now.
So, we will plan to gather tomorrow evening at 5:30pm to break bread together, pray, and sing a few hymns. We will break bread as a community of Christ in Cleveland County, but also pray for our neighbors to our west and all those suffering from the catastrophic devastation in the wake of Helene. We may not have power at the church by campus tomorrow evening, but we will plan to eat outside on the church lawn and open the church for bathroom facilities. Please note that you will need to park in the front circle drive or the upper half of the parking lot to the side of the church due to downed trees and lines in the lowest section.
If you have power and access to food to spare, please plan to cook what you can(l (with the understanding that we may not have power at the church campus) and come by 5:30. If you don’t have power or food to spare, please plan to come and fill your bellies with food and your hearts with the joy of community. If you know of neighbors, friends, family, and strangers that would be able to gather with us or could use access to food, please invite them as well.
In addition, we will be taking donations tomorrow evening (and again later in the week) for Shelby Mission Camp, which will be used as a shelter for the medically fragile evacuees by NCEMS for the next couple of weeks, and for Polkville Fire Department, who is serving displaced folks from the Chimney Rock area. We are asking for donations of toilet paper, paper towels, basic hygiene items, bottled water, and no perishable snack/food items. Any and all of these items are greatly appreciated and will go to these places in Thursday! We hope to see you tomorrow evening at 5:30 to break bread together. Blessings!
