We hope you will all join us this Sunday, June 14, as we have special guest, Pastor Jimmy Johnson, founder of Christ City of Refuge bringing the Word! Here is Jimmy's story to get to know more about him and his ministry:
Jimmy Johnson has lived in Darlington County his whole life and for most of it, he and his wife Sandy have carried a quiet burden for people living on the streets. They would stop, help where they could, offer a meal, cover a night in a hotel, and feel like they had done something good.
One night, after helping a woman in need with food and a place to stay for a couple of nights, Jimmy walked away feeling proud of himself. Then the Holy Spirit stopped him in his tracks with a simple question: You have helped her for a night, but what have you done to change her life?
That moment changed everything.
In 2016, Jimmy and Sandy founded Christ City of Refuge, not as a program born out of policy or strategy, but out of obedience to that whisper. They built the first cottage right on their family farm in Darlington County, because they believed that what people experiencing homelessness and addiction truly needed was not a handout, but a home, a structure, and someone willing to walk alongside them.
Today, Christ City of Refuge operates seven cottages on that same farm and Jimmy still runs it the same way he started: in person, hands on, and heart first. He also continues to raise beef cattle and sheep on the farm, serves as pastor of a local community church, and has his family working beside him every step of the way.
He leads with patience, with forgiveness, and with an uncommon ability to see the person in front of him, not their past. That is the gift he brings to every resident who walks through the gate.
Because hope, he will tell you, has an address...
