On Memorial Day, we pause.

We remember the men and women who gave everything — not for medals, not for recognition, but for love of country and the people in it.

There is no greater sacrifice. And yet — the gospel tells us of One who gave even more. Not just His life for a nation, but His life for every soul of every nation, for all of time.

"For one will scarcely die for a righteous person... but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
— Romans 5:7–8

This weekend: honor the fallen. And remember the One who rose.

📖 Did you know? The word "gospel" literally means "good news."

In the Roman world, a gospel was a public announcement — often of a military victory. When Jesus sent His disciples out, they carried news of the greatest victory ever won: death defeated, sin forgiven, relationship with God restored.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes." — Romans 1:16

Maybe it's a diagnosis. A fractured relationship. A loss you didn't see coming. Maybe you can't even name it — you just know something inside you hurts.

Pain has a way of making the world feel very small and very loud at the same time.

Here's what the Bible actually says about it:

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction." — 2 Corinthians 1:3–4

God doesn't just comfort us after the pain — He meets us inside it. The Greek word for comfort here, paraklesis, means someone who comes alongside. Not from a distance, but someone who pulls up a chair and stays.

Jesus was called "a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief." He is not unfamiliar with what you're carrying. And the same God who turned a crucifixion into a resurrection is still in the business of bringing life out of the hardest places.

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." — Psalm 147:3

You don't have to be okay right now. Just let the God of all comfort do what He came to do.

Our door is open. Bring the pain. 🤍

Today is the International Day of Families — a day to celebrate the people who shape us, know us, and do life with us. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

But what about the ones who feel like they don't have that?

The one who moved to a new town and doesn't know a soul.
The one whose family is broken beyond what they can fix.
The one who sits alone at holidays and scrolls through everyone else's highlight reel.
The widow. The prodigal. The one who just feels... unclaimed.

God sees every single one of them. And He made a promise:

"He sets the lonely in families." — Psalm 68:6 (NIV)

Four words. Quietly stunning.

God doesn't just notice the lonely — He moves them. He places them. He seats them at a table with people who will become their people.

That's exactly what Jesus came to do. Through His death and resurrection, He blew the doors off of who belongs in God's family. Jew and Gentile. Young and old. The put-together and the barely-hanging-on. All of them — adopted, welcomed, given a new name.

And that's what the church is supposed to look like.

At Body of Christ in Laurens, we take Psalm 68:6 seriously. If you're lonely — if you've been on the outside looking in — we want to be the answer to that verse in your life.
